I visit just as regularly as before, however I have a friend who says he has stopped comming here entirely since it now takes 10 minutes to load a thread even though he has a ADSL connection.

I also find Apolyton very slow, but not intolarably slow.

I always browse in multiple windows so that I don't have to wait for pages to load. With the slowdown I just have some more windows open at the same time.

Mark and Dan keep telling us that it's not really a problem.

The site is slower by a wide margin since the change to vBB.

It has become annoying to come here to post about games I'm playing in, to say nothing of the Off-Topics.

But it's not really a problem at all, right?

Guys, you can keep telling us it's no big deal, but we are telling you, it is.

The fun is rapidly leaving Apolyton.

I have had no time problems at all, until I went to make this post. Is it only affecting the Apolyton/Community forum?
I have a normal modem/phoneline connection, so I can't see why people with ADSL lines should have trouble.

The slowdowns are not a consequence of the upgrade, so the question is irrelevant. Yes, I've been coming here less since the slowdowns started less than a week ago. But the upgrade a month ago made little or no difference to speed.

Snapcase, it's been slower for me since the upgrade. Though sometimes better, sometimes worse, it's always been slower.

I hope folks give the powers that be a chance to iron things out however. Even if you post alot less as I have been, I keep coming back. We're part of a community here, and just because all the traffic lights are stuck on red doesn't mean moving is the answer...unless things aren't better when Civ 3 comes out.

Actually it is very fast earlier on in the day for me, as fast if not faster than under UBB. But the problem is during the evenings, which is suspected to be a server bandwidth problem, which could do with being addressed, especially with Civ3 on it's way. Go on, slam in a few new processors and hard drives

I disagree... Right after the upgrade, I saw no problems with the speed of the site when I was posting from home with my cable modem. At the office, things were slow at times because our network was slow, not Apolyton.

This is a recent problem

Now it is beginning to slow down again now. This thing is connected to the university network, so bandwidth at my end is not an issue. It has become much slower, and will begin to slow down further as more American time zones start work...

Patience is a virtue, people. If you`re prepared to put up with the decrease in speed, vBB is a much nicer system than UBB ever was. There are a lot of features in the new system that I believe would be noticeable by their absence were they removed.

In my opinion the slowdown are a result of the upgrade, as it started for me with the upgrade. At the beginning it was very hard more than half an hour to open one page. Everything what I know is that I changed the provider for the internet connection. The old one is very slow, sometimes the speed was more or less acceptable but not at all. I only know that my old provider used a proxy server but maybe that isn't the problem.

I've been coming/ posting less, not so much due to speed problems, but more due to the error messages I keep getting when I try to post. Half the time, I get the "no thread specified error" and it's really frustrating!

ps: I had to try posting this thrice before it worked

It's a bit slower now, which has something to do with the size of the files served. I took a glance at the page source and it looks dreadfully complicated. I reckon Markos can do a bit of optimisation on the code to shrink down the files. There might also be a problem with the server load and/or the bandwidth.

I have just did a traceroute (yes, again ) and there's traffic jam along the route. Sometimes the slowdown isn't caused by either end but something in between. However if you use it when there are few people you should notice an increase in speed.

I know I have really decreased the number of times I check in during the day (eastern standard time) because the site is so slow then, but things are OK at around midnight.

At the moment it is very fast, I will have to try it later in the afternoon. This page took 1.913 seconds to load, but I have colossal amounts of bandwidth; connected directly to a university over ethernet...
