Succession Game Anyone? Get a bigger avatar today!

Since there is limited response to calls for an MP game, how about a succession game for ToT?

Probable settings are: Random Large Map, Romans (Livia), Diety, 7-Civs, Restless Tribes, 20-turns to start.

If we can get at least 4 or 5 people interested I'll start the game. Sign up by posting a response and hopefully there will be enough to get started.

Players:

  • MBloomIII
  • JoeK
  • Mercator

I'd like to try a succession game... although I've never played at diety level before (I'm not that brave yet).

I don't sit in front of my computer all day playing, so I'm not constantly available... but for 20 turns a piece I'm sure I could do that.

As for telling the story of the succession game, I think I could be good at that. I started once a Diary of a Civilization that I have yet to finish.

Thanks for considering me,
Joe.

With a succession you don't have to be on-line. Someone starts the game and after 20 turns attaches the save file and the next person downloads the file and plays their 20 turns, etc..

Once you're done with the turn then you post an 'account' of your time as ruler. It's pretty fun to take over a Civ and see the way others play the game.

I'll consider you as signed-up.

Put an end to popups!

If you don´t mind having a screw-up among you... It´s been quite a while since I played Civ2, I only got ToT a couple days ago (for $5.20/€6.10), and only installed ToT today. Apart from that, I´m only a Prince level player.

OK. Now we are getting somewhere. Another brave adventurer. That takes us up to 3. So far you guys have expressed trepidation at attempting a Diety level game. We certainly don't have to. We could play at King level or Prince if that is what you guys want. Nothing is set in stone yet. See if we can attract another player and we'll get this game rolling.

OK... I'll give it a shot! Add me to the list if you still need players.

Never played a succession game, and be warned, if you want to play deity, you'll probably find a _lot_ of extra cities after my turn... I can only handle (?) deity with an ICS style

STYOM

Oh yeah, almost forgot, if you're new to ToT then don't forget to download the patch... or you won't be able to build spaceships, I think.

Deity or Emperor are fine by me, though I'd prefer to avoid ICS it turns the late game into a logistical nightmare. (and it's unesthetic....

All right! STYOM & Thoth gives us 5 which will give us a good start. I should get the game up and running around Wednesday the 11th.

Thoth, I'm not a big fan of ICS either, but that is the neat thing about succession games. You only have 20 turns and then you pass it on. You can continue or change the game you receive.

Here are the players so far:

MBloomIII
JoeK
Mercator
STYOM
Thoth
makka
Hydey

Cool by me... what settings are we playing on? Same as in your original post, MBloomIII?

That's part of the fun of sucession games.

Are we going for conquest? or AC?

If we're going to AC, shall we play Extended Original?

And do both.

We have run into a small problem.

I've played the first 20 turns but the file is too large to attach and I don't have a Zip utility here at home. The file is 161 KB and the largest size allowed for posting is 150 KB. I can e-mail what I have to the next person or e-mail it to someone with a Zip feature and they can attach it. Let me know how you guys want to proceed. In the meantime I'm going to post in the Apolyton Community forum and seek a remedy.

You can just email it to me (joek@joek.com), I don't mind... but what about the next person after me? (I've got Zip... speaking of which, you can get a free zip demo at http://www.winzip.com/)

Question: When do we stop the 20 turns? Do we leave one unit with no orders at the end of the 20th turn? Or do we stop playing at the beginning of the 20th turn (skipping past all those city production complete messages)?

Joe.

OK. I've sent the file to JoeK and will be starting a new thread for the commentary on this game. We'll do 20 turns until around 1750AD or maybe after everyone has played twice.

I've used up my WinZip demos downloading scenerios. Too cheap to actually pay for it.

We have a problem :( Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

A (hopefully little) problem has materialized. And no, it's not just my Deity playing skills.

About 3 turns into my shift as leader, the Spanish landed near one of our cities. That's not the problem. The problem is, they landed out of a ship that looks like a Colonist (from the 'Extended Game') and is labeled 'Spanish Extra Ship'.

I've never seen this bug in my ToT games - I do recall the Ultrastring Theory bug, but I fixed that with the 1.1 patch. Do we all have the patch installed? Can one of you guys d/l the game, play a few turns and see if the same thing happens? I tried playing through it, but the damn things kept coming back, much like triremes, and they're too unbalancing to play through.

Sorry guys... I don't think it's my ToT, but someone better check to be sure. I'm attaching my save file from the turn it happened.

Inflate your Upload Space

I'm bummed. I tried unzipping the file into a different folder than 'Original' (since I note the zipped file comes in zipped folders: Mps/Civ2ToT/ExtendedOriginal) but still, the same problem arises.

Mercator, was this game started as an Original, or Extended Original? Maybe that has something to do with it.

Anyone else have any ideas or insights into what might be going on here? MBloomIII, JoeK?
