I think you win the prize for the most imaginitive spelling of Firaxis

There have been many discussions, apparently they did let it slip somewhere that there were 16, and could play simultaneously. But don't take my word for it though...

Well, actually Firaxis didn't let anything slip out. The 16 untis being able to be played simultaneously came from an unreliable preview. We all know how inaccurate previews can be. So to answer your question, no it hasn't been confirmed. Your best bet is to not set yourself up for getting let down.

There are 16 playable civs in civ3. That has been confirmed. What we don't know is if we'll be able to play all 16 at once.

according to civfanatics.com, max players allowed at the same time will be seven, as usual. this is not confirmed, but thereīs some reson to believ it.

- doesnīt the "advisor screen"-screenshot show seven leaders?
- it would be typically "Sid-ish".
- think it would be quite messy with borders etc.

Each civilization will have certain permanent benefits that set them apart from their rivals.
Civ3 will have 16 Civilizations (compared to Civ2's 21).

Chinese (Special Unit: ?)
Egyptians (Special Unit: ?)
English (Special Unit: Man-o-War Frigate)
French (Special Unit: Musketeer)
Germans (Special Unit: Panzer Tank)
Indians (Special Unit: ?)
Iroquois (Special Unit: ?)
Japanese (Special Unit: Samurai)
Romans (Special Unit: Legion)
Russians (Special Unit: MiG Fighter)
Zulus (Special Unit: Impis)
Greek (Special Unit: Hoplite)
Mongols (Special Unit: ?)
Aztecs (Special Unit: ?)

Civ3 will include a "very robust" civilization editor. You will be able to create new civilizations and share them with other players.

Don't keep quoting civfanatics. They have the same sources we do, and the conclusion they've drawn is unsupported. Use only primary sources such as interviews, official Firaxis news and previews.

Uncle Funk, you really don't know what you're talking about. First of all, in the screenshot on the side there is only 6 heads shown not 7 heads. Second, a lot of the civs that you've confirmed to be in the game, haven't been confirmed. Third, you seem to know some how that 16 civs will complicate the game. How would it complicate the game with a big map? Fourth, some of the special units you confirmed haven't been confirmed yet, either. Fifth, all you do is go off of speculation. Quit telling people that there will only be 7 civs playable at once when you have absolutely no idea if that's true.

TW, who is the stalker really? Iīm getting really tired of this.

1. As I said, Iīve only checked it b r i e f l y, and when I did, I thought the head on top looked like Lincoln. And if this was a foreign advisor as I recalled, there should only be 6.
2. Where did I say something was confirmed? where? Iīll quote myself:
quote:
The list of civilizations that most likely will be in Civ3:

3. My only subjective guesses. I do not "know" this. AAMOF, I wish there will be 16.
4. see point 2.
5. This is a forum, youīre allowed to speculate, as long as you donīt claim anything to be true. And AAMOF, Iīll from now on speculate even more, just because you donīt like it.

Stop following my threads and just complain about me. I bet youīre like 12-13? Donīt you have something better to do? Hmm, maybe not.

Well, if they actually represent civs, there would be exactly 6 heads if 7 civilizations were playable at the same time (the 7th civilization would be yourself, so you would not be able to contact it, would you?).

These advisors on there are domestic roles, eg, research, treasury, trade, military, city, etc. I'm sure that you would access diplomacy functions under one of these advisors.

I have *heard* 16 civs myself in one preview of the game, although nothing is definite. No one really knows. I would like for there to be 16 simultaneous civs in the game with a huge map. One of the things I always enjoyed about the original civ was sailing around the world, finding land, exploring and bumping into new peoples.

Exactly. One of the negive sides in Civ II were, according to me, that each civilization owned a land area atleast as big as europe. totally unrealistic. 16 civs are cooler!

Yeah, not really avoidable though (the land area thing). Look at the land area of the UK and the empire it possessed up until relatively recently. On a civ2 map, you could only fit one city realistically on GB, 2 at a push!

Yeah, 16 civs are better, but for it to be playable, you need a bigger map!

I really think that something on the order of 16 civs on a bigger map would be good. Two caveats, though. First, it has to be guaranteed by in-game consequences that the size of your civ won't exceed 40 cities. Second, the AI has to be programmed so that it fills up the space as quickly as possible. That way, you end up with a large number of civs which are all comparable in size. That's my kind of game.

I don't mean a pre-programmed limit. I simply mean that having an empire larger than this would produce such severe negative consequences that it would be counter-productive.

thatīs what i donīt want, itīs unrealistic. itīs more like the real world if some civ is big to the are (like russia), small but advanced (like uk) and so on. to encouner this, the leaders have to have a more distinct personality, like perfectionalist, expansionalist, and so on. differences are more fun.

I didn't say that all of the civs are comparable in size; I said that a large number of them are. Countries of approximately the size of France or Germany are the norm; countries like the USSR and the Netherlands are exceptions.
