Excellent new scenario available for Civ2-Strategy lovers Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

For those of you that don't check the HS-Scenario League threads very often - there is a very well done new historical scenario of WW2's D-Day, by Captain Nemo. There is an FW version and an MGE version, and I think a lot of you guys will really like it. It is quite tactical, with the map scale at 1 civ square to 1 square mile, and has all unique units and terrains. It requires intelligent combination attacks, smart tactics, and good use of terrain. The potential strategies are almost endless.

Required strategy concepts - ship chaining, partisan effect on 0a units, marine attacks, blocking choke points with bombers, rushbuilding, 5 specialists, WLTPD, trireme effects, moving through high cost terrain, avoiding ZOCs, paradroping, food caravans, food caravans, & food caravans.

In this scenario Nemo changed food production to fuel production and all mech units are settler types who require fuel support, so you have to move fuel caravans from England across the channel to support your vehicles. A very novel concept and one that adds a good deal of additional thought about logistics. The only fuel producing squares are a few specials so you need to be smart about it.

Hit the barbwired beaches and take out those shore guns, then move inland through the hedgerows - wave to Tom Hanks as you liberate Normandy.

----

If you don't like WW2 scenarios there are a wealth of other types of scenarios from Apolyton posters that absolutely blow away all of the scenarios that came with the original CD's. If you haven't checked any of them out yet, you are missing a fantastic element of the Civ2 experience - the Apoly hosted Scenario League board is a good place to read up on new releases and their home page has useful reviews with screen shots to give you an idea of some good ones.

Suffering from ads?

I just finished playing my first scenario last night. It, too, was WW II, the standard one that comes with the game. I was a little puzzled by the results, though. I played the Germans, took over the British Isles, destroyed the Spanish, had the French and Neutrals down to a couple of cities, and was about half way through wiping out the Russians! And yet, I still fell short of a decisive victory by two objectives???

Oh, well, it was fun. This one sounds especially good. Thanks for the tip, SS.

Comparing the WW2 scenario that comes with Civ2 to Capt Nemo's RF2 and SF is like comparing a toy rocket to the Apollo space program!

Full PM-box? Change here!

Heh. I just hope the allies had an easier time of this than I am. I've started 3 times so far and been utterly creamed beyond hope of salvation within the first few turns. And this was taking Nemo and Xin's advice.

(Note that I'm talking about SF here, not the ww2 scenario that came with civ2).

Anyone have any tips or do I try it again at chieftan level?

Inflate your Upload Space

There are some tips at the HS-Scenario League and HS-Art of War forums here at Apolyton. Changing levels won't help much since most of the German units are already placed on the map and your cities are already placed and happy.

Good Luck, it ain't easy!

I've tried it once so far without reading the readme.txt file. Boy, was that a mistake. But it is the slickest D-day scenario I've ever seen in any genre. Bar none!

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

kcbob - When I play scenarios now I always keep a copy of the rules.txt open on my desk top so I can go back and forth. Capt Nemo uses all of the tricks of the trade in this one. I just can't get over how elegant it is.

If you don't like to micromanage cities, but do like to fight it out with a bunch of units - this is perfect. You start out with a couple of necessary techs and a bunch of landing craft infront of the beaches of Normandy. The only way to get techs is to capture objective cities and knock out special units; you are just "researching" Future Techs, so none of that mad science scramble with hiring scientists.

Brilliant!
