For those of you that don't check the HS-Scenario League threads very often - there is a very well done new historical scenario of WW2's D-Day, by Captain Nemo. There is an FW version and an MGE version, and I think a lot of you guys will really like it. It is quite tactical, with the map scale at 1 civ square to 1 square mile, and has all unique units and terrains. It requires intelligent combination attacks, smart tactics, and good use of terrain. The potential strategies are almost endless.
Required strategy concepts - ship chaining, partisan effect on 0a units, marine attacks, blocking choke points with bombers, rushbuilding, 5 specialists, WLTPD, trireme effects, moving through high cost terrain, avoiding ZOCs, paradroping, food caravans, food caravans, & food caravans.
In this scenario Nemo changed food production to fuel production and all mech units are settler types who require fuel support, so you have to move fuel caravans from England across the channel to support your vehicles. A very novel concept and one that adds a good deal of additional thought about logistics. The only fuel producing squares are a few specials so you need to be smart about it.
Hit the barbwired beaches and take out those shore guns, then move inland through the hedgerows - wave to Tom Hanks as you liberate Normandy.

If you don't like WW2 scenarios there are a wealth of other types of scenarios from Apolyton posters that absolutely blow away all of the scenarios that came with the original CD's. If you haven't checked any of them out yet, you are missing a fantastic element of the Civ2 experience - the Apoly hosted Scenario League board is a good place to read up on new releases and their home page has useful reviews with screen shots to give you an idea of some good ones.

I just finished playing my first scenario last night. It, too, was WW II, the standard one that comes with the game. I was a little puzzled by the results, though. I played the Germans, took over the British Isles, destroyed the Spanish, had the French and Neutrals down to a couple of cities, and was about half way through wiping out the Russians! And yet, I still fell short of a decisive victory by two objectives???
Oh, well, it was fun. This one sounds especially good. Thanks for the tip, SS.
