URGENT ( ish ) PROTEST! ( regarding Sigs.... ) Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

I had finally collected my favourite quotes and was ready to update my profile.

However it tells me that there is a maximum length of 4 lines.

So not only can I not add to it, I can't even keep it like it is now and change the rest of my profile.

I realise it is maybe a bit petty but so is putting a maximum length on it too. I mean are the sigs over 4 lines long REALLY making that much of a problem? After all half the forum posters have sigs over 4 lines. I'm not sure if I'm the first one to notice this but I seem to be the first one to complain.

Please take the maximum length off.

Pretty please.

Or set it to something more reasonable like 10

If you need more than four lines because you are using multiple quotes, try using only one quote and changing it periodically. A ten line signature is silly when most of the posts around here are barely that long.

Do what Wraith and DCA do, manually attach a random quote at the end of each message.

I am not going to tolerate messages where the signature is longer than the body.

just pick one quote tht sticks out as being worthwhile rather than clouding the waters with too many. One good quote is worth ten mediocre ones anyway. Your sig IMHO should hav emore to do with who you are than just what some person said once upon a time

No russian novels as sigs please! Tired of ads?

I find that many of the sigs are more interesting then the posts, but 7-10 lines is a bit much.

I remember that just recently, a guy had a post that was something like "Yes, your right", but he had a passage from the "odyessy" as his quote, and it was half a page long!

No, let's not let that be the norm.

UR has the right idea, if you need to say more, just cut and paste it in.

I agree, there has to be a limit. The idea of rotating sigs is a good one. Perhaps you can lure people into following your posts just to see the next installment of your sig.

Faboda:
Have you ever posted to a news-group?
If you have, did you read the news-etikett before posting?
It namely states that four (4) lines is the recommended maxlength of a signature.

So IMHO Apolyton has done correct in copying that rule here too.
You can say it four lines...

Btw. Did you know that light style don't show signatures?

Jeje2: Yes it does. Well, it does if you choose to have signatures on (there is a checkbox buried somewhere in the preferences section, I think).

Myself, I think that my sig is one of the best sigs that I have had for ages (posting in the hope that the HTML works...):

Oh yes. There is indeed no cure for AH's disease of posting. Just read:

So
I now have problems with what you were trying to say...
(Some clarifications needed THX)

If something has been found to work in one system why shouldn't it work in another "alike" system as well???
Sure newsgroups use a different system, but is it really so different anymore? I would say no. Theese bulletinboards have adopted many good features of newsgroups.
=> I still think a four line signature is enough...

I use light style and I see all of the signatures. It is a choice when you select light style. I don't have a problem with them so I have left them. On the other hand, I hated waiting to see people's avitars so I choose to turn them off.
