Another boring Comparison Game - NOT! Increase Your PM Length

Roll up! Roll up! See the latest in bizarre!

Well at least I hope you find this interesting - the initial object was to set up a really different OCC game and I hope to have succeeded here - but at the same time there is a real challenge for you perfectionists, ICSers and I hope everyone else. The basic scenario is the Arthurian Legend, with the odd twist.

The zip file here contains the scenario art1.scn, the startup text file art1.txt and a short text file art1-rules.txt which explains a little more about the background of the scenario and sets a few ground rules. Please read this file before starting the scenario. If your machine isn't zip friendly the files are here: Scenario, Text & Rules.

p.s.[in edit] Just tried out the links and my browser insists on displaying the two text files rather than downloading them - if this happens to you just copy the entire contents of the browser window, paste it into notepad and save as art1.txt or art1-rules.txt in the same folder as you have downloaded the scn file.

Results thus far:
OCC

1621 Tom DeMille AC
1576 tonic AC

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

(In IE) You can right click and "save target as" to download the text file. Hmmm, chances are the mac users are the ones who won't download the zipped version. Never mind...

I'm looking forward to the game!

Allright what have you cooked up now?

MAC people can get the "save as" popup by option clicking

MAC also likes zip files very much as long as you have Stuffit

No - but the start can be as unpredictable as mutant gators.

If you don't get 50 gold from the first goodie hut, your progress is severely slowed.

I have never seen so many wonders built by 3950BC...wait a sec..I have never seen any wonders built by 3950BC

I don't think the opening went the way it was intended.

1st I noticed I had no moves at 4000BC.Ok no prob. The French contacted me and traded 2 techs. They were then destroyed by "Mordred".

then I got 50 gold and bribed Camelot for 174.JSB!Is it over now that Camelot is once again safe?
Or am I going for space or conquest?

For the 3rd time I got to build a palace.

Smash - all is well! Play it ICS/OCC/or any method you wish. When we were testing the start at the weekend, an interesting sequence of events took place. We ended up with a barb king and a French Warrior in Camelot!

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

All the funny stuff is over now - you just play to win your favourite way, but the other civs didn't just get some wonders so you might have some more difficulties to enjoy. - No you don't need to get 50g from the goody hut - I never did in my play testing!

Hi SG1, I did this game OCC, and landed in 1621 (launched a 15-2-2-1-1-1 ship in 1600). Discoveries were very slow early on (I got 10 or so hut discoveries before my research got one). I kept a log, but lost everything after about 300BC due to a computer crash.

I bribed Camelot after attacking it and reducing its pop by one. I explored a lot and managed to get alliances with all the AIs except one. The late game went very quickly, with techs coming every two turns after I had built Isaac Newton's College. A couple of the AIs were very generous - I would routinely get 200-250 gold in gifts.

Well, the years were passing by at 10 per turn, so a standard 15-3-3-1-1-1 would not have been launched until 1620, landing in 1635. So I shaved 14 years off by launching early (it had a 97% chance of success, so why not).

well disaster has struck. The game was going ok(going for conquest again) but an unfortunate bug has forced me to abandon.

I had a horseman trotting the upper pole. All of sudden the entire map was full of horseman.I couldn't move because of ZOC.I waited that unit, moved others ok,then the same deal when it came back.It was weird not moving because of ZOC when the nearest city or unit was thousands of miles away.I thought,ok I'll disband and chalk it up to the gremlins. But it,rather they, wouldn't disappear.I got rather frustrated and trashed the whole ballgame and reinstalled.

I can't see any reason why the scenario would cause this.More likely its a MAC/PC thing.

I know a fair bit about the map now so I guess I'll have to sit on this one abit till I forget some of it.

Played as OCC, this was a fun game with lots of exploring on the large map. AC at 1576 is a new PB for me thanks to an extraordinary sequence at the start, 3950 BC: First the French building JS Bach’s, then the Barbs capturing Camelot because the French Warriors rashly came out to block my path, a Barb Horseman within contact distance of my Spy and the Barb Leader exposed and within the ambit of my bribed Horseman! I had enough gold in the coffers to bribe Camelot the next turn.

(Here is a graphic of this for those interested).

Three enthusiastic allies gave generously and contact with all five AI civs ensured quick tech rates. The isolated location of Mystic Isle meant that there were no problems with aggressive civs although it delayed the establishment of trade routes.

The minimalist "log":

2.42 Deity

AC: 1576

Monarchy: -2850
Republic: -325
Democracy: 140

Colossus: -2600
Copernicus: -475
Shakespeare: -275
Newton: 140
Darwin: 620
Apollo: 1180

Trade routes: -625, -425, -350

Size 12: -775
Size 21: 25

Trade: -2900
Construction: -2650
Sanitation: -300

Space Flight: 1160
