Freedom of expression? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

In these months we have read many posts heavily guessing about the "still almost unknow" Civ III.

Some of them irritate people because of unfounded pessimism, others because of blind faith in Firaxis and optimism.

Do you feel that, until full game/playable demo of Civ III will be released, that kind of post must be limited by moderators/Apolyton netiquette?

Note to moderators: I started this poll here because I think it's currently more related with Civ III area and its hype that with Apolyton Forum in general.

Not only should we ban both, but we should ban ALL Civ3 posts ENTIRELY. Frankly, I never understood the point in talking about a game that hasn't even been released yet! I mean, C'mon!

I think off-topic posting should be clamped down upon since we seem to have lots of posts that drift off into silly debates. Only the humerous polls poking fun at the trend seem to get locked.

Secondly all speculation about a release date should be confined to a single active thread with all others being locked. That way the same tired "yes, but.." arguements might die back a bit.

Optimistic or pessimistic posts relating to specific Civ 3 features should be encouraged provided they actually make some concrete points. Discussing the game is what this forum is supposedly all about. Where we have not got adequate official information all we can do is make assumptions. A wildly pessimistic or optimistic assumption is better than no debate at all!

We are all free to regard or disregard the attitudes of other posters. Firaxis has given ample fuel for both optimism and pessimism, and the discussion is frequently healthy and insightful. But why lock threads? With a little self-control, such pointless will fizzle out on their own.

Meanwhile, the lively discussion of the upcoming game foster ideas for modifications, even if Firaxis doesn't incorporate them into the game itself. Until there is a finished product, drawing firm conclusions about its quality is pointless -- but the current ongoing discussions can help us all better evaluate the new game when it does come out.

I think you said the same thing as I did, you were just more optimistic about the ability of Apolyton posters to self-regulate their off-topic spam threads I remain pessimistic, and cite the dozen or more 'release date' threads active within the last month as evidence. Lock 'em up!

Considering that every aspect of the game has been touched upon at one time or another, I would say that all posts should be allowed, both optimistic and pessimistic. I may not like yin26's prophecies of doom, but he should be able to spend entirely too long writing them if he so chooses.
