	problem with images and links Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

MarkG.. I know this is probalby an isloated problem , but when using the internet at work (i know sack me!!) i cant access pages or links or for that matter images (which is most of the attachments) that are stored as http:\\apolyton.net .. I can access all the pages and stuff that says http:\\www.apolyton.net

I know its strange!! but is it possible to alter the code to make all of the images load as http:\\www.apolyton.net etc .....

yes my typo , but regardless of that, the links and pics are all http://apolyton.net and for some reason that doesnt work here from this computer, it needs to see http://www.apolyton.net

It's a DNS problem. Check with your local techie for a solution.

thanks UR... I not sure if i cn get them to change things just so i can see images at apolyton, will have to find a reaaly cool oil industry site that wont let me see pics as well then so they wil lchange things ...

You can just tell them their DNS database isn't properly updated due to a configuration problem. Usually if your own server cannot resolve a name, i.e., looking up the numeric IP equivalent, it will pass the request to a server it connects to, etc. until the request is resolved.

I think it's probably some kind of nanny firewall blocking one site and not the other.

The easiest way to check is to ping aplolyton.net to see what comes back.

Open a DOS window.
Type:
ping apolyton.net (or whatever other domain name you wish)

Although I don't see how this will help anything. All ping does is tell you how long it takes to get a response from the requested domain.

Care to put on your professor's cap and explain in detail U.R.?

You'll get different error messages.

If it's a DNS database problem, you should get something like an "unknown host" error message.

If it's a firewall, I reckon you'd get a "request timed out" or something like that. Of course, the firewall could be really messed up and allows UDP packets (that's what ping is based on) through but not TCP/IP packets (for Web browsing).
