Favorite Piece of Civ3 Fluff Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Alright pick your favorite piece of fluff. This is little stuff for Civ3 that has absolutely no impact on the game itself, does nothing to help or detract from gameplay, just stuff that creates a fun environment to play in.

If you pick other, say what it is

The palace is my favourite because it was interactive and customisable, unlike the Throne room which always ended the same if you took all the upgrades.

For me, other. All the original music of Civ, enhanced a bit but not too hacked up like the civ2 versions. I would love to hear those songs again, it would be a massive nostalgia trip

But the messages they give must vary more.

OTHER: STATISTICS.

i don't know if u would consider them fluff, but a nations GNP wasn't really VITAL to the game, but it helped a bit.

and if ure not considering that fluff, then the ADVISORS always gave me a lot of laughs, without providing any inciteful information.

BUILD MORE UNITS. (my 10 stacks of 1 legion and 2 catapults in caravels isnt enough)

EXPLORE. (i already have 20 cities and met all the other civs)

BUILD SCIENTIFIC SHEEIT. (3 turns is too slow, i know)

THE PEOPLE ARE UNHAPPY. (screw them. WORK DAMMIT)

and now, for the NEW stuff...

MAKE MORE CULTURE.

A "newspaper" would pop up on the screen, with the main headline being some important announcement ("Queen Elizabeth will be retiring in 20 years" is the one I remember best).

This is OT but it feelt a little unnecessary making a new thread just for this, as for as I know there are 2 versions of Civ 1, the crude looking PC version and the nice looking Mac version, why is there such a big difference, and is CivNet like the Mac version but for the PC, and in that case, where could I get it?

I voted for other. The reason for that is because the demographics are my favorite fluff. They may not have been very good in Civ2 but if they were expanded upon they could become very interestng. Either way though, demographics is my favorite fluff.

There were many versions of the original Civ. If you recall it came at a time when the entire industry was not yet dominated by Windows and Mac. There were DOS, Windows 3.1, Mac, versions for sure and I am pretty sure Imegia and a couple others.

CivNet was the multiplayer addition of Civ that came out shortly before Civ II. It had the most updated graphics of the bunch and allowed you to play against your friends. Not sure you can find it to buy anywhere but there is a site online that has old games to download. Forget the name, can someone help me out?

Second-favourite piece of fluff: the Civ I history-replay option at the end of the game - one of the best features of CivI, and sorely missed in CivII.

Techwins: looks like I spoke too soon. I still prefer the Metallica avatar.

Lets see.

Why don't we have all of them in Civ 3, selectable by options? Dang we have 600MB on the CD, surely there will be enough room for all the fluff.

Of course we have to have the Palace instead of the Throne Room.

Civ and civnet were on the Underdogs site until recently. I heartily recommend this place for some top notch old strategy titles. Since they have been removed, I can only assume MicroProse are actively enforcing their copyright and the games are not "abandonware". All you can do is use search engines to trawl for the likes of "civnet download" and bear in mind that you are possibly obtaining software illegally if you download it.

Those of you looking for a place to download old games like Civ I:

Someone on another thread (and I have forgotten who and where exactly, sorry) posted a link to this site earlier.
gamebird.dk

It has Civ I, Colonization, MOO and a ton of other abandonware.
Haven't downloaded anything there myself yet so I cannot make any statement as to reliability.

Other: City Screen (like Civ2)

I liked all the fluff that went along with having a City Screen (not City View) instead of having it all in small menus (like CTP). I like all that stuff in a city window. Infact, I want more! Maybe graphs? Customizable screen, more population heads, maybe an option that can be turned on/off to have a 'build your own city'. For example, when you build a new building, you can place it in special areas on the city view screen (if we have it, which i think we will from screenshots). Possablyanimated icons. Maybe as the city grows it gets more features?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Fluff? Where to begin?

Definitely, we have to the Elvis entertainer back. The King was a great addition to the game, although since not everyone loves him a user selectable entertainer graphic would be nice.

Demographics were cool too; looking at a screen and knowing that I have the highest population, highest land area, highest pollution, etc., was cool. I really miss that from the CTP series.

The history replay at the end of the game was essential. I never figured out why they didn't include it in Civ2, and it is sorely missed. Knowing how my empire expanded and shrank over time was neat, even though it mainly will show expansion nowadays.

The palace: it has to be user customizable. If we end up with something that always looks the same no matter what then I'm turning it off. I don't care if it's a palace or a race car, just so long as I can exert my personal touch on it.

And finally, funny messages would be nice. Such and such had built such and such, etc, etc. Example: The city of Rome has built an aqueduct, unprepared citizens are now experiencing flooding!
