Readiness Slider Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

You can set how ready your people are by placing the slider at various levels. When it is high then they can simultaneously attack, but maintaining the army costs more.

When it is low it is exactly the opposite.

---
Thus you can determine how prepared your people are in the event of nuclear war, etc.

Thus less people would be killed in an explosion and the nukes in one city can be fired at the other cities.

Seems a bit too much to me. I don't see how it would destroy gameplay if done properly, but with all the things already in civ3, it probably isn't needed. The AI wouldn't exactly have a field day with it, either.

Thanks for the information Darkcloud. Can you tell me where you read or saw that? I'd like to check it out.

In CTP2 I never used the military readiness slider because someone was always trying to attack me and later I just plain forgot about it. I might use it in Civ3 because reducing the military would allow me to pursue a more peaceful way of advancing through history.

It's only meaningful when you can have "wartime economy."

Otherwise it's best left abstracted into regular costs.

Inflate your Upload Space

Yeah, most people would just leave it alone. Too much micromanagement, for both the AI and the human. Best left for later games or expansion packs.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I thought that CTP handled the readiness slider bar quite well. It affects all units at once (no micromanagement). You do a trade off with HP for your units and shields which is fair. Civ3 would benfit from a slider bar.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I don't really like the idea of a readiness slider, but what about experience of units/civs? If a civ had no previous encounters or experience with gunpowder or flight, the bewilderment could translate into a slight loss of morale (or abject terror). After the civ gains the tech, or familiarity with it's use it would lose the advantage.

Basically it would translate into being like a veteran attack (or double veteran attack if the unit is a veteran already) against the unenlightened civs, at least for the first 2-3 attacks. This would give extra benefit to those that can climb higher atop the technology tree.

Or it is peacetime and you want to spare money, or you are fighting a war and you want to be as ready as possible. So a switch is better than a slider. This switch I used sometimes in EU in the years just after signing some peace agreements.

I do not think this option fairly useful for Civ though.

Got spare money?

IMO, the crucial point of CTP2´s military readiness slider was that it required ten turns to convert from lowest to highest readiness. Therefore, while you could save quite a lot of money by maintaining a low readiness, you ran the risk of being overrun by a sneak-attacking enemy.

While I haven´t read anything about that specific feature in a preview, Civ3 will include the possibility to switch to Nationalism if your culture rating is high. Thus, you can mobilize your economy for war, halving the costs of military units and buildings and doubling the costs of peace-related buildings. Seems to me also like a pretty tough decision.

(Disclaimer: No, we don´t know if Nationalísm is a "stand-alone"-government, an "add-on"-ordinance or simple a tech.)

Tired of ads?

I really liked the readiness slider in CTP in fact it was one of those things that a hoped to be in Civ3.
It allowed me to concentrate on research and still have an army to scare other civs of.

Oh, that was just a suggestion, Anatolia, not a fact...

But this slider, it is not much more work to maintain it and it could help draw the player more into the game.

It would be NICE it you said that in your orignal post, and any further posts in which you make "suggestions". It's hard for the rest of us to read your mind and know that it wasn't some "fact" you read somewhere or just conjecture on your part!
