Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I think the civ background to the site is very important in that it draws fun and smart people to the site...

But I think the OT is the most impressive part of this on-line community.

Mark, what I meant to say was pageviews and poster tenure (within the community)

Hmm, when it gets that far, I suppose not.

As for talking about it, isn't that what we do about everything?
Like all new things, we always want to talk about them, I suppose.

Now for some diplomacy.

quote:
I actually volunteer out to do something, while I could easily just sit around the forums and post anything, without helping Markos and adding something new.
Doesn't that go along with with your admin/mod status?
Or do you just like the way it looks in the location field?
When you pick up the mantle, you pick up the load.

If Mark wants help, all he has to do is ask, plenty of people here would pitch in.

quote:
I think that if you don't volunteer to anything, you shouldn't criticize others much. I would be happy if any of you made an interview with some civer, and I'm going to see if anybody else can do it on a regular basis. Sure, many can, but noone before me did it .
You seem unaware as to the nature of these boards.
To post ANYTHING is to invite criticism, for good or ill.
As for interviewing people, I'm NOT a mod or admin here, just a poster, so it doesn't fall within my perview as a poster to undertake such a task for Apolyton. One thing there is no shortage of at apolyton is people who like to talk, so rounding up people to interview should NEVER be a problem. Look how quickly Laz rose to the challenge of interviewing AH!
I'm sure if you put out the request, people would certainly voluteer their time and effort to this project.

quote:
I'll keep diplomatic responses for the time they are needed.
I don't think your answers are undiplomatic, just a tad impertinent.

Inflate your Upload Space

I'd like to tell you how much time I spend on an interview. First, I need some good time to compile the question list This is where I need volunteers, BTW, for giving me questions. This includes learning about the person, and etc.
Then, after I receive answers, I read it for the first time. For the second time, I edit it as I read. For the third time, I read it with my edits, and only then am usually ready. Sometimes I need a second email to the interviewee.
Making one interview isn't an hour or two, it's more than that.

GP, I do actually consider I do quite a good job at these interviews. No, not excellent, for sure, but just good.

Also, let me point out that you have seen 2 interviews. Markos has seen 4. I have seen, more or less, 6. I just want to state you're not, yet, in a very good position to judge, though I believe after FoA 10 or so, everyobdy will be in a good postion to make the judgement.

No need to worry that much about it AH

Our decision was to post the interview (unedited) as a top-ed thread in the OT and not as part of the FoA series. The decision had nothing to do with you rather than with the end result of the interview. I was going to post it when i would post the next FoA, but if you're ok with this, let me know and I'll make the thread.

Solver, I would just like to thank you for the interviews; I could never think of as many good questions as you did for the interviewees. They are quality interviews!

(however my demand remains, and it seems... has been met, "interview at least 1 current OTer (ex. Stefu, AH, etc.) in the first 7 interviews"
Nearly all of them were, at one time, prominent on-topic posters.

The alternative is to discuss it with those involved.

This is just a suggestion, of course. However, if you are serious about seeking contributions it's one I'd strongly advise giving consideration to. Rather than agonising over content or styling, or dropping in edits/bowdlerisation, just get some dialogue going with your would-be contributors.

you are correct in your suggestion, but in this case we felt that the needed changes would be too many and probably not acceptable by either you or AH. so instead of geting into an endless and perhaps disheartening for all parties involved discussion we thought it would best to do it the way i described above..

True again, but ignoring member feedback often causes repeated criticism, as i am also aware. (see link in sig for that. )

All from humble origins, eh?
I suppose that is true also, but I also know that when you take on a job, you have to be prepared to follow through with it, despite nit-picking and caterwalling. and you know better then anyone that the Off-topic crowd is the most vocal of all groups!

That's why they get :banned: so much!

And let me give a down for not letting the AH interview go as a true faces feature, but as just another OT thread.

Seeing as the interview wasn't planned to be put online for several weeks, deadlines aren't a pressing issue in this case.

Again, let me suggest discussing it with those involved. Give it a try.

in what way? if you are talking about traffic it would of course be lower. on the other hand it would make browsing much faster on high load times(hey, there's an idea! ) if you're talking about the profitability of the site, when you are at low numbers even big changes dont make much of a difference

If it's not top-ed, chances are less people will see it. Though I coudln't care less.

As for the who saw it.

Bugs originally sent it to me, and I was the first. Then, it was the "evaluation comittee" who saw it, consisting of some people, who shalt not be named here, yet.
