Greetings All,
I'm looking to start playing in some PBEM games and I'd like to know if there is an agreed upon list of "cheats" that aren't used by players.
I've been looking through past posts and I was amazed at how many little things people could take advantage of. I don't want to knowingly or unknowingly do something that would break PBEM ettiquette. For example, I recently found out about the "Stockpile Energy" bug. I used that quite often to help manage my queues, not knowing that you would get extra energy that way.
I would prefer to avoid being labelled a cheater just because of my ignorance, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Forever learning,
Hubcat

It's still on the Multyplaying Forum.
PBEM Tournament Rules and Results
In TC's first post there's a section named
"PBEM specific rules/restrictions on exploiting bugs"
I would assume that the correct title should be
"PBEM Tournament specific rules/restrictions on exploiting bugs"
as in PBEMs played outside tournament frame (independent PBEM), this can be held as reference, but the players of each individual independent PBEM should have the right to agree between themselves about specific rules. After all they'd be adopted for their pbem only, and within a pbem the players should decide on their own the way they best prefer to play.
In particular, the Stockpiling bug and the DW upgrades should be treated as options for each independent pbem.
I figure that the experience gathered since then should call for an update of that list.
I'm thinking for instance of the "F4 workers/specialists reallocation for other factions" Bug, which is a MAJOR show-stopper.
There was also a compendium collected by the admired Helium Pond (whose online absence is still missed), in this same forum
Consensus on Cheating, Repost
HP's list was just the common ground for a debate, many cionsiderations stated there are just his opinions.
If you look for my post in that thread, you'll find a link to the previous 4-paged compendium with wider discussion about the items in the list.
If to widen your perspective you want to have a look at how the issue is addressed in a different site, you might peek in
ACOL SMAC PBEM Rules page.
That page is also rather obsolete, but you can regard it as an historic document
I hop that such intersite reference would be considered for its cultural value, and not purged as undue advertising denying you access to sources of information stranger to this forum....
