Dip 55: Hagakure Diplomacy Autumn 1574 Results

We have three power blocs forming in the game, all sitting on 8 SCs and these are the main contenders at this stage. When they all meet in central Japan, it could annihalite every other power, with the exception perhaps of Chosokabe. This turn also sees the elimination of our second power, Mori, whose death was fairly inevitable. Tzuri, thankyou for playing and I hope you enjoyed your time in the game.

POWER RANKINGS:

1. SHIMAZU: With plenty of room for maneouvre and a relatively easy-to-defend homeland, Shimazu is at the top of the list again. Now Mori has been eliminated, Shimazu must choose where to turn next - allied neighbour Chosokabe, the easy prey of Oda and Asakura or the much more formidable Uesugi and Hojo. once gets the feeling an almighty battle between north and south could be in the offing.

2. UESUGI: Still little to tell between Uesugi and Hojo, but the former probably has the more secure strategic position, with more potential for expansion. If the alliance with Hojo holds, Uesugi could do very well at the expense of Oda and Asakura. Naval conflict with the rising Shimazu in the south could pose a threat however.

3. HOJO: Another power in a good position, but one gets the impression that its units are a bit too constricted, with allied Uesugi blocking the easy routes into central Japan. In practice, this means Hojo will miss out on gains from Asakura and must content itself with squeezing Oda. The Shimazu fleet in the Kanto Sea may be the start of a much tougher contest, and naval superiority may be crucial to a power whose SCs are so concentrated on the coast.

4. CHOSOKABE: Still expanding, albeit slowly, one gets the impression that Chosokabe is largely under the shadow of Shimazu and must be careful not to annoy its erstwhile patrons. Progress against Asakura has slowed to a halt, and further expansion is limited, particularly as former ally Oda has concerns elsewhere.

5. ODA: The future looks bleak now, and the defence has fallen quicker than expected. With Uesugi and Hojo both thirsty for blood, Oda also has to contend with Asakura, who looks determined to gain revenge as part of his own death throes. Survival will be a tough task, unless a central alliance can be formed, but this seems highly unlikely. Shimazu might also be able to provide limited help.

6. ASAKURA: Difficult to see Asakura lasting much longer, especially with Uesugi's attempt to take Echizen this turn. It seems Asakura is content with taking Oda down with him, even if that means sleeping with the enemy. Again, Shimazu may be persuaded to support a central pact, or maybe not...
