Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Right of Passage allows you to go through another Civs territory. Without such an agreement, it is considered an act of war.

Not quite. If you cross into a Civs territory, they can tell you to get out. If you don't, they can give you an ultimatum "Get out or else". After that it is a pretext for war.

With the pact, you don't have to worry about pissing them off.

Yes, entering within the borders of another civ is an act of war unless you have a right of passage pact.

Actually, you can enter their borders, but if they don't like you they'll tell you to leave and THEN declare war. Also, non combat units like workers are generally able to enter other civs' territories to do things like build connecting roads.

Also, as was alluded to in another thread, a Right of Passage speeds up movement on roads through another Civ's territory. IIRC, without one, you can't get road or railroad movement bonuses in someone else's territory.

And the same goes for the human player? Sending the civ an ultimatum to leave or fight, not like in civ2 where you had to get an audience which you never got

What, Dan edited his post after I read it. (First time I read it didn't include that part about me being wrong.) He must have done it within 5 minutes.

Don't all messages that are edited, reflect that in the message itself?

This also connects to the whole idea that you can't use another civs roads against them when attacking. I wonder if this is true even if you built the road within someone else's borders.

That's rough not getting road & railroad movement bonuses without a right of passage pact. I'm guessing that will make my howitzer rush a bit dicier.

Fortunately, thats a good thing. It was a bit unrealistic to be able to build enough howies to take out an entire civ in one turn without them being able to hit back.

Fun, but unrealistic. And not so fun for the civ being attacked

Thats good. Diplomacy-agreements must give a big enough benefit/obligation in order to feel worthwhile. In Civ-2 one could play largely in arrogant "spendid isolation" most of the time, and simply ignore too nurture and/or feel obligated to diplomacy-agreements. Not good. Obviously any Right of Passage agreements with an empire should automatically be canceled, once you attack/get attacked by that empire.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

So you get there movement bonus from there roads. Makes the agreement very important if you have to travel across someones land to get to another civ you are at war with.

Yes, roads are obviously still there - check with any map-screenshot at http://www.civ3.com/. Also read all updated info on that site, and this one as well; http://civ.strategy-gaming.com/civ3infocenter.shtml, for the latest info about the Civ-3 game.

Put an end to popups!

so, with this pact, can an AI civ send in a tank onto one of your squars, but you can still work the sqaur?

and thje only way to trade is with connecting roads, so you would HAVE to send in a worker. is this an act of war?

OH MY GOD! THEY HAVE PUT ON OF THEIR SLAVES IN OUR TERRITORY!

I think that means you can send your workers to build a trading connection, and that it is not an act of war.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The railway sould don't work since they need a infrastructure and they are easy to sabotage, but roads are just roads.

And the big question is indeed this : can you still work a square occupied by an ally/neutral unit? I remember I stared a war agains an ally in CTP2 for that reason.

Combat engineering? Increase Your PM Length

What if you're invading another country and you build a (rail)road to support your invasion force, will the (rail)road work for you? or will it only benefit the enemy? maybe you would have to pay a certain amount of gold for each road that you travel over. (gold being spent to placate the natives and keeping them from bothering your troops.)
