Tile-Improving Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

From what I know so far about Civ3, the job of tile improving is no longer the settler's task, but is now the task of a seperate unit called the worker. i have a few questions:

1) will these new units build all the tile improvements that were in Civ2 (roads, irrigation, mines, etc)?

2) is there any new improvements known at this time?

3) is there any indication that a usefull automate worker function will be in the game?

my concerns come from the fact that in Civ2, if you wanted things done right, you had to do them yourself, and running lots of settlers around doing all that work was WAY too tedious. i mean it seriously felt like 80% of the game was spent improving tiles and the other 20% was spent enjoying the rest of the game.

I think that a good solution is that you would be able to use movement queues like when you build city improvements.

Like this: move to x build road build irrigation move to x build mine build road etc...

What do you think?

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

d4d,

1. Yes
2. Yes - at least colonies (not really a tile improvement but an important function nevertheless)
3. Maybe

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

well, a while ago there was a rumor about "highlighting" areas for improvement, eg clicking and draging a road path, and having the worker build the road on its own, but Dan dispelled that rumor

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

That sucks!
It would be great to be able to queue terrain improvements too.

I liked micromanagement. It's good. But in most MP games useless, aside from roads I never did anything else.

1) Yes, the workers do it all.
2)I'm not sure, but I think there will be some sea improvements, and possible a 3rd level of road. But that is a guess.
3)It would seem that the AI is better. The governers are vastly improved and advisor are most useful.

In the new screens your military advisor says this about the German army, "These guys make our military look great."
I thought that was funny.

awww that sounds like a great idea! i would much rather click and drag a square range of tiles for a worker to irrigate than do them all one by one
