Military embargo strategy. Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I know that your Civ resources are shared between cities that are connected the road network. A tactic could be to pillage roads such that the supply line to a city or cities is cut, and production & happiness suffers, thus making it difficult to defend.

Does anyone know if merely stationing a military unit on such a road would cut off supply?

Don't know, but standing on the square that contains the resources does.

It would be nice if it did.

If I remember it correctly, one of the Firaxians have actually mentioned something about 4-5 of hes cities turning into anarchy, because of an AI-unit that managed to pillage a key road-junction, that tied together several luxuries to these cities.

I dont know if its enough to simply stand on such a road, though. Most probably you must pillage it.

I'd say pillage it anyway. The occupying unit would move on to its next target in a turn or two, and then they'd have access to the resource net again. If you pillage it, then they have to get a worker out there to try and rebuild it in the middle of the war. I've killed hundreds of settlers/engineers/formers/whatever that were wandering around in the crossfire.

That gives me an idea for a new unit: Army Corps of Engineers. More expensive workers, but with a real defense and movement value so they can operate in war situations.

Tired of ads?

If positioning a unit disrupts the route, then expect roads to be built on every square. Ugly but the easiest get around.

Put an end to popups!

why bother pillaging? just fortify a unit on the resource with a good defender, capture the city and you dont need to bother with rebuilding the road. of course, if you dont have the army/resources availible to take cities, you could do an emense amount of damage with pillaging big networks of roads...

Since trade routes are abstract I don't think that just stationing a unit on the road would work.

It would depend on how advanced the game's system of tracing trade routes is.

nah, no need for a new unit. Just stack a defensive unit on it.
