Technology Strategy Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

It seems like every game I play, I get way behind the computer rivals in terms of technological advances. Any tips to speed up my technology research?

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Build more commerce improvements lots of them, and try to set 3 or 4 scientist in your heavy production or heavy population cities. remeber 0 science is bad and the more production a city has the less science it has, so I would start building commerce improvements in these cities first. In the modern age most of your cities should have about 100 science except the small ones, and your total science should be 2500 +.

another thing to do, is make sure u have all science improvements and money improvements as income directly afeects science. If u need a real boost, and have enough production, try putting your workday down and putting ur wage down. This will decrease ur collected production but increase ur gold and science. Dont forget to trade techs also, the comp usually agrees. It help a lot.

One question for a veteran. Does gold from trade go staright to ur treasury or does it get taxed for science like the rest of ur income?

Veteran here.

I'm serious though I usually play very hard, or impossible. Money from trade goes directly to the treasury, In CTP it went to science, but people complained. Now people are complaining it doesn't go to sciece. To edit one of Lincoln's quotes " You can please some of the people all the time, You can please all the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time." It's supposed to be fool, but please is more appropriate here.

An excellent quote cube...(and this is coming from a confederate)

No matter how you do it people are going to *****...

Personally, it seems to me trade should go to the treasury, and then science... (although i like science)...

I thought that the trade setup in the CTP1 default game was unbalancing, because gold played too much a part of creating science, to the point that it was always better to build gold enhancements instead of science enhancements. CTP2 went the opposite direction, where building caravans weren't all that important, because all it did was build up an already full RB bank account.

But Peter Triggs unit updater SLIC code actually has made trade necessary - so I would recommend any players to get their hands on that coding for their own setup.

And if anyone could create a code that takes a percentage of trade gold and transfer it into science, that would be nice too...

Heres my two bits:

1. Get out of Tyrany as fas as you can. I usually nab Bronze Working & Stone Working, then I b-line to Monarchy or the Republic.

2. Build Aristotle's Lyceum ASAP. This gives you a huge science advantage that you don't want someone else getting.

3. Reduce crime because corruption can really put a dent in your science production.

If you do these things you can usually survive the middle difficulty levels.(Medium & Hard)

Put an end to popups!

Odin is on the right track here, political advancement is the key to long-term scientific acievement. Remember you have to actively change your government. Certain wonders are also very imporotant, as Odin again points out. Gold is also important, so get those trde routes flowing!

Sean.

These recommendations however don't really work for impossible.
At this level I never get to research the advances for
Aristotles' Lyceum in time.
Also it takes lots of time to reach something like monarchy.
The first wonders I could build where in modern.
Regretfully my spies always get caught stealing technology.
I wonder what the best technology strategy is early in the game
when you play impossible.
Any ideas?

The most important thing to getting a good start in science is to place your cities correctly. Place them next to the coast and on top of a river so you get the bonuses to build and food. That way your cities will grow faster then the AI's because it never places it's cities well. Then try to get Ramayana, Chicken Itza, and Aristotile ASAP. This should give you a huge science lead.

Don't forget you can disband units inside a city to rush build wonders.
