Hey CtPers! Get a bigger avatar today!

Guys,

I was curious how people found Apolyton, so posted a poll...

Now, I know how the Civ IIers like to think they can look down on us, so I think as many of us should be represented as possible.

Vote here!

Cheers!

Has anybody here tried a Civ2 pbem game, it doesn't have the same cool PBEM setup that ctp has. I would love to get into a game of that sometime.

I would love to, Don dude! I never played Civ2 pbem, but i did download an unofficial hotseat program which i attempted to play, most unsuccessfully. However, it did not include pbem, and i asuume that the only way to play pbem is to have the Civ2 gold edition. Unfortunately, i never bought it because it never sold at a reasonable price in Australia.

It's ****ing ridiculous that even after 5 years, you cannot buy Civ2 in Australia for an unexorbitant price It's far too old to pay more than a few clams for it, yet they treat it, and it's ancient graphics, like it went on the shelf just last week.

Anyway Don, why didn't you post your comments on the OT forum as per Mobius' link? Perhaps you did, but i didn't check

A Civ2 PBEM game would be nice if I had it. I managed to play the game for some months from my hard disk but after a while I had to delete it to free some space. Never bought it after that as SMAC and CTP came out short after.

Ya about 4 yearsa ago I got Civ2. But I had no knowledge of Apolyton. Then about 2 years ago when I got CTP. I wondered into apolyton. Did know about forum. But did download some mods, and made some entrys in the now-non existant- guest book. I played alot of MP/LAN. But I lost interest...then about last november I saw a CTP2 television ad. So i got the game and started typing in civ stuff on the search engines. I redisocevered apolyton, learned about the CTP2 mods and things. Got the patch,Registered at forum.

edit- learned about PBEM from quinns in Activision server.

Lung- How much trinkets/Shilling does Civ2 cost?

Here at K-mart, it is 3.99$ lol

WHAT?!! $%&#!!

I must admit that i haven't checked lately, but the last time i saw it, it was about $40 Australian (which, BTW, used to be about $50 US, but is now less than $20 US. Floating the Aussie dollar was surely the single most stupid political decision ever made in this country ).

For chrissake, i bought Total Annihilation for 20 bucks a year after its release and loved it, yet Civ2 costs a squillion years afterwards

Perhaps it's time i checked again, as it has been quite a while, but i doubt it

The cheap Aussie dollar hits us twice with software. We pay double because games are developed overseas, and our best developers work in the U.S because they make double the money, so there's no hope of ever paying normal prices for games

Actually, i checked again and ToT sells for 20 bucks now, but MGE is nowhere to be seen. Now i'm not even sure if they ever released it here, as only a couple of hundred games even make it here Suprisingly, i saw Civ3 on pre-order sale for less than $80 Australian, which is a lot, but it was feared to sell for over 100.

What thread is this again?

Sorry guys.

Denmark voted NO to the Euro.

Fx. you can't expect that stores will accept EURO in Denmark from the 1.january 2002.

Well, if I want to go to Italy or Spain I won't have to change drahmas to lirette or pesetas. I won't need either to make calculations in my mind regarding correspondence exept the first 2 months of 2002 until I get used to Euros And other stuff.

Man, I might be proud of my nation but why should I decline Euro and its benefits just to keep my nation coin?

I like faded glory's idea, change it all (world) to one currency. American, Danish, Euro whatever. Keep it simple. Even though this is probably impossible for some reason or another. Economics, Capitalism, Profit, Greed whatever

I'm proud of my country or countrymen too but I don't go around with the Canadian flag stuck up my a$$.

Nationalism is sometimes taken to far. It can be alot like religion, it can divide instead of bringing man together. We should be thinking about the human race as a whole not a small group of people in a geographical region.

Personnaly, I'm french, happy to be french. But I'm glad that several counbtry try to unify there economical goals.

I'm okay to keep my french traditions (south french traditions in my case), but i'm not against europe. If France will survive in the futur She has to be European.

The evolution is'nt safe, will be hard and etc... but we have no choice I think.

Hehe when I travel to canada the people is Quebec have a nickname for the currency. They call it the 'looney' because it can be so weak one month, and strong the next

Ya the one currency idea is probably impossible. But the Euro wasnt a bad idea. Did not know denmark voted no, england and some other countrys are still a question mark.

Our currency is real strong here. But nonetheless, we americans will complain about everything

bah speaking of Civ3!! its now official there will be no mp until spring/summer/fall of y2k2

BTW don, I think your country is a great place. Except Quebec of course...for some reason Quebec city is a dump compared to other places ive been Taranto, calgary, etc. Why dont you guys give them independence already so they wont be such a burden

I think the real reason for the reluctence of the British government to enter Monetary Union is that it will, once and for all, expose the appallingly high cost of living here and our pitiful relative pay when compared with the rest of Europe. When that is added to our punative indirect taxation system and low level of primary health and social welfare systems it will expose us fully as the most exploitative nation in Western Europe.

As for religion, it is a sop for the inadequate and those who would use it as an excuse for acts of violence are obviously profoundly misguided individuals best placed in secure psychiatric establishments rather than prisons.

Jon Criminals are in deep trouble in the United States. Phil Gram is going to introduce a bill this spring to send the harden murders and Pediaphiles to Russia. We would pay them.... Its a good idea, I think.

I hate the idea that there are so many freakin prisons in the US. For every 4 schools we build we put up a prison. Thats bad...

Nyway Jon, We practically have no Social Welfare in the United States. Our right leaning politicians simply dont agree with the idea of the government providing healthcare and social services. Those are done bye the states on a state-by-state basis.

I am so glad the brits decided to go along with us in the war against afghanistan. I just hope our president will go after the IRA with the same rhetoric and determination.

Jon

Your religious rant is totally bogus. Religion has it's positive sides and its negative sides, but to take a very wide paint brush and paint religion like you did is wrong. Total crap, I say, Total crap.

Saddam

Thanks for your comments about Canada. I have never been to Quebec city so I can't agree or disagree. Btw.. everybody calls the 1$ coin a loony. Canadian sarcasm at work here.

Why would the Russians agree to that? What's the purpose in that. They also have had a increase in Criminal activity since communism fell.

Well get used to the Prisons Saddam, there will be more before there are less. Governments have to put the non-elite, dysfunctional, human trash, anti society, criminal types somewhere. Its easier to address the symptoms than it is the cause.

If I were the Brits or Irish I wouldn't expect a whole lot of help in the way of the IRA. Didn't Clinton get involved with this affair, what happened, did he make a difference? Some Americans want to help others in the world but even more Americans could care less and unless in it concerns Americans directly they don't want anything to do with it. In some ways I understand this attitude but in another way I find it elitist, selfish, and just plain dumb.

I know there is not much in the way of welfare, that is because some Americans very much believe in self-success. Everything is measured by how successful you are. Success in Career,Education,Job, House, Wife, Friends, Car etc etc. If you can't pull your own weight than you deserve nothing. You made your own bed you lie in it. I have a great life why should I give a damn about you. They don't take into consideration of human error, lack of brains, lack of education, geographical locations, Insecure Jobs or Economy etc etc.

Its amazing how much money Americans have, but its also interesting that in many areas in the States they have third world conditions. Lots of poor people in the States, but since they are kept on the other side of the tracks, or that part of town. Or even rural areas. They are mostly unseen by the better off Americans, who mainly don't want to see them. Its like this up here in Canada, especially Ontario. Allot of Yanks or the World say Canada is part of the States, well I agree, partly. Of all the very different areas in Canada, I would say Ontario is pretty much the same as the States. We have it all here, Poverty, Money galore, Industry, Tons of people, cars, pollution. We have a conservative(much like the bush bozos south of here) provincial government that couldn't care less about the poor. They want elite business types with oodles of money. As far as they are concerned the non-elite welfare or poor types can just go somewhere and die. It would save them allot of headaches. Its a very much the strong flourishes, the weak perish environment. Having said that though, just like the Americans there is an element of the Canadian population that have more compassion or empathy towards their fellow man.
