What is your Civ2's style of playing? Inflate your Upload Space

I started this post to learn from better players that I am. I want to know what, with few words, is your way to victory. For example, I normally prefer going to war only in late 18th or 19th or in the very begining. I love to build many improvements in my city...

I have a friend that don't build anything else the most urgents buildings and go always for war (and He hasn't problems breaking a treaty). I, normally, dislike to break a treaty...

Well, I want to know: How do you play civ?

(As always, I beg perdon to all English-speakers for a not very good master of this idiom)

that´s the way I used to play
but I haven´t played a normal civ2 game in maybe MORE than a year, scenarios are funnier for me

I play the early game to expand quickly. The first order of the kingdom is to build the colossus and research monarchy. I always gift techs and then demand tribute (unless the AI finds a yet-undefended village ). Uso el oro to rushbuy (para ruxbaiar? ) caravans for wonder building. I also send a diplomat on a trireme to bribe barbarians so I can have NON-units to defend my cities. The next era is exploration and slow expansion while building libraries, walls, markets, and such.

Your english is much better than my mastery of spanish...

I also like the peaceful approach. I like to biuld almost all improvements exept granaries and barracks (that's and old custom from the civ1 days).

Oh, I also like to build barracks as well. I normally only wage war with veteran units. I know it's not that important, but, as you say, it's an old custom.

Yep, that's the first important building 4 me. I'm very Shakanian when playing normal civ2.

Roads/railroads are the best war machine (settlers/engineers are then essential, I really hate when one of them is destroyed )
Leo's WS is my indispensable wow)

Something ironic I usually do: discover democracy to build the statue of liberty to be the first one becoming fanaticist...

I am usually a peacefull player in civ, building and developing cities, ultimately ending with democracy, however I have been revising my play style a lot since I found apolyton, I had no idea of the possible population booms in democracy an republics before, or for that matter the power of caravans for trade.

In cities I end up building all improvements given time (the cities need to reach certain sizes before I want them to have certain improvements, etc) I also allways (nowadays) make sure that all cities has atleast 3 traderoutes...

As Shaka I dont play the normal game a lot anymore though, I use my time to build and play scenarios...

No es importante!? The attack and defense strengths of each veteran are multiplied x1.5, no small difference! A legion is 4a/2d, a veteran is 6a/3d - catapult attack strength with musketeer defense (except the extra hit point).

That said, I almost never build barracks. I'm not sure why, but I prefer to have my units earn the status.

I believe that when all the lands are under my control are peacefull and happy
I really like fundamentalism and comunism, if I am fundamentalism I build lot of universities,labs,caravans...to make scientifics rates the same as other civs
I don´t like breaking treaties, I usually forced to other civs to break them asking lot of tributes
The best way to conquer a city in modern age is builidng railroads with engineers and of course in all ages if you want to win you have to build a great fleet of diplomats and spies.
Ahh!!! the airports in special cities are very, very usefull.

Pd.of course in scenarios everything changes

I also almost never break a treaty, I allways keep a reputation of spotless (I don't know why, the AI doesnt care about it annyway).
When I go to war I get the computer players to declare war against me and then I crush them completely (although with a few pauses, when they pay me 500 gold for cease fire)...

I mean that barracks aren't important, not that Veteran units aren't important, 'cause, as you say, you can make green units easily gain their veteran status.

I think having veteran units is the key to win any Civ2 war, that's why I always go to war only with veteran troops.

Ciudades! More cities early means fast growth, more gold, more science. Irrigate later. Build a defender first, then a settler.

Si! If others have more technology, your research costs fewer beakers. Let the AI help with research, then trade techs. There are many techs to give that don't hurt you - for example, bridge building or pottery. Laugh at them if they want gunpowder.

It depends on your style of play and difficulty level. At emperor or deity, Michaelangelo's Chapel is a must if you have many cities.

If he is on a bad location, walk for a few turns to find a river or special, preferably both. Don't wait until past 3600bc, tho.

I prefer, normally, build citys if they don't overlap...

Except Monarchy...

I love Pyramids, but, my favourites are Leonardo's Workshop and Miguel Angel's one.

-I good open "citys abandonateds"?

I don't understand...

quote:

-What percentage for "luxury"(?) es the best?

0% until Republic, where I normally set 20%

quote:

If the start's position is good, build; else, move but not more than 2 or 3 turns.

Culture, in my opinion.

I don't like Colossus. None of my cities are past Size 3 until after I've got quite a frw and I only build Aqueducts when I have a happy wonder. I'd rather build Pyramids. I never build granaries and always try to get Pyramids (but I only play on Emperor, maybe I wouldn't want pyramids if I was on Deity).

Luxury - 0% until Republic when I usually go 40tax-40sci-20lux.

Increase Your PM Length

In the beginning my cities produce all at first a settler, then a defence unit (or vice versa if danger ahead), the settler then founds a city. The third unit is generally a settler again who makes irrigation/roads. One or two cities produce units to explore and find goody huts, maybe to destroy a Civ nearby.
The first wonder I hunt for are the pyramids, then maybe Hanging Gardens and later the big churches. Almost can't play without them. The first improvements are generally temples, then libraries (in the center) or barracks (in the front-cities).
In the tech tree I always go for Monarchy and Philosophy as fast as possible, I hate it, when someone else gets the bonus-tech
I generally don't make attacks on Civs unless I feel powerful enough to destroy them right-ahead, I hate unfinished jobs. If I conquered a city, I probably can't hold forever, I try to starve them until there's only as much pop. as I have units inside
