Congratulations to Firaxis. (Absolutely no criticism) Suffering from ads?

Listen, I know the crew at Firaxis still has a lot of work ahead of them, because I'm sure there'll be bugs and patches and the need/desire to do an expansion or something (there's always something). But, while they may be off drinking their fancy-pants game-developer champagne, and driving their million dollar game-developer cars, and sleeping with their transcendently gorgeous game-developer spouses, I just want to say congrats.

No complaints. Just a pat on the back, and I hope you can get some sleep now.

------

sorry I didn't see other congrats post. Oh, well. Can't have too much appreciation after all the whining that happens here.

I hope they continue to lose sleep from continued addiction to the game. Well, not from their well-being's point of view, but from the point of view of the game's quality.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

It is nice to see that people are more optimistic than they were a few months ago where it was nothing but b*tch and rant about they didn't like the design of the spice special resource But now the dream is almost realised, people, including myself, are very optimistic and excited about the whole thing. I think the enthusiasm I have seen from the team is enough to convince me that this game will be a more than worthy follow up to the civ dynasty. Roll on Oct. 30th!!!

Tired of ads?

Ahhhh! It is refreshing to see a positive thread.

And yes- thanx again Sid and team for what IS the next big PC hit.

Not only will CivIII be worthy of the CIV title, WE will be unworthy to play it! [Well, ok- maybe I will be worthy ]

Bugs??? Patch?? I don't think it will be as bad as you or everyone thinks. Why would Firaxis authorize the game going gold early if there were still a lot of bugs? They could have kept the game another week and worked those things out and still had the game released on time if the bugs exisited. So my feeling is the game will be relatively bugless.

Inflate your Upload Space

I know that some Firaxis teammember from the pre-order vid said that CivIII runs very smooth.

Hopefully the bugs will not be many, if any.

Haven't been playing computer games that long have you? Or have you just never been apart of a major release? Every game has tons of bugs that cannot be found without tons of players trying things that designers never thought of. Just wait, it will happen if you play long enough. So keeping the game probably would not have done any good.

Yay!!! Civ 3 will be out soon and I'm sure Firaxis has done an excellent job.

Well, in the recent years the game manufactures have
supplied the markets with useless games, because they
have included so many bugs and they haven't been finished
completely. Of course Firaxis has tended to release games
of high quality that doesn't have many bugs, but if Civ III
has been finished in hurry (for instance they would have included
an incomplete MP in last minute), we might see some
bugs. The reason for that they tend to publish working games.
is that they have put more effort (not the same as $$$)
on the development.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

I will say this...although there are (obviously) things that I wanted in the game that are not in there (well, who around here can't say that?). My overall mood towards the game is also positive: Such things as the new diplomacy/resources/culture system; the air units "Operational Range" system; minor wonders; the U.N; great leaders; build queues etc, etc make me very happy. My only REAL complaints at this point are the way they have (seemingly) done armies (though this may change if I see How it works!!) and the lack of an (optional) supply line system to make warmongers give greater thought to strategy before they begin a war!! (See appropriate posts)
So I will also say "Congrats Firaxis"... overall I'd give this game a 8.5-9/10

Yours,
The_Aussie_Lurker.

Hats off to the optimists and well-wishers. It's just too early to make any pronouncements. We basically have just the developers' subjective view about their product. Wait till you get your hands on the game before you congratulate the crew.

Perhaps I should re-phrase my comment. I believe there will be bugs but I just don't think there will be as many as everyone thinks. I trust the game will be quite polished.

That is hardly fair tonic

Just getting to Gold on a Project of this size is a feat worthy of praise - not only have they delivered it but they have delivered it when they said they would!

Yes, the game seems to be on a smooth schedule right now. I am starting to think that maybe Firaxis has time to spare as far as what they wanted to get done by the Oct 30th release date (which, btw, was a pushback from a mid-October release).

As far as bugs and Firaxis' games are concerened- from what I have heard, CivII had a bit of bugginess, and I know from first-hand experience that Alpha Centauri had, and still has, serious bug problems.

I sure hope Firaxis isn't thinking of letting bugs slide like they did with AC[x].

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

SMAC had a few bugs but none of them I found were threatening or problematic to gameplay, not like some of the ones in the earlier civ games (anyone remember infinite terraforming in civ1, or airbases on mines in civ2?), so I have confidence that this game will be reasonably bug free. As long as it is continued to be supported for a good while, I don't mind. The other thing is compatibility with all systems. When I downloaded the SMAC demo it just refused to run on my system, and so I sent all the details of my system to Firaxis, and when the game was available, it ran fine on my computer. My current computers configuration should be a bit easier going however...
