Ah, I dunno, I think due to the post counts being eliminated, spam is a bit better tolerated in the OT because the admins feel sure that it isn't done for post count reasons. I think the OT feels quite relaxed, so I am not concerned about double standards either. I am sure though orange that we will run a good OT at CGN!

OK... I admit it when it comes to the owners of the site, we are biased... and for good reason. It is their site, and frankly, they can do WHATEVER they want here.

Well Asher... I do hear you... and you do make a valid point.

However, people that own companies are welcome to run them as they see fit... as long as they aren't breaking the law. The same holds true here. They have put a lot of work in this site... far more than I'm sure most people even realize. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have such a great place to post...

So, since MarkG is technically my boss, I think I will cut him some slack

Plus, I'm not going to be the one that closes or deletes his thread.

(even though I'm really tempted since all the spammers are feasting on the thread)

Has anyone realized that comparing last year's OT to today's OT:

Last Year:

- post counts active in OTF
- many less then serious threads floating around (word association, coffee shop, etc.)
- less harsh spam control

This Year:

- post counts deactivated
- mor serious posts in the OTF
- harsher spam control

I disagree completely. I am FAR LESS harsh on spam since the change. Yeah, we always allowed one running word association thread, and the coffee shop as "safety valves". But we were pretty ruthless when it came to spam. Now, I close/delete less threads and have restricted far less people for spamming. I've only deleted two threads today, and I think I closed two... far lower than in the past when I use to average deleting 5 or more a day... But I can only speak for myself. MtG would have to give you his take on it for a well rounded picture.

I think the enforcement of spam has been far less harsh, as Ming said (though the Asher thread shines out against this IMO), but I do feel that the amount of spam has either stayed the same or gone up. Not the intended results, I'm sure

I proved the double standard by creating a marky mark thread knockoff which was promptly closed. It was just as valid as a thread. I created it to prove the double standard we're talking about.....Like a charm it was proven!

I remember a phase where we had threads in all kinds of different languages...like Dutch and German...so this is not much different...only that I now have weird characters on my screen...and Taurus' thread has now brought more weird characters on my screen...

Yeah... we do go through phases on this type of thread. Originally, we weren't going to allow threads in other Languages, because we couldn't know what people were posting... But then we decided to allow them (unless there are too many of them, and it's starting to get to that point) If somebody is being bad, usually, somebody complains... plus, we do have that translator program (which usually delivers some really funny stuff)

I don't have a problem with club threads really, but they've always been frowned upon in the past.......so does this mean they're ok now?

We must recogonize the fact that many people don't speak English as their first language. While this site is in English, we have posters from all over the world. Just trying to be nice.

However, as with anything... if it gets out of hand, we will shut them down... nothing new.

Drake's thread was a copycat parody of Marks. There was no problem with the Finnish language threat either.

The only reason Drake's thread got close was it was a copycat thread.

Personally, I don't really give a **** about OT spam, unless it's real blatant 100%. Drake's thread was. I thought it was funny, but hey, it's still 100% spam.

Ming closed one thread that wasn't spam, allowed me to reopen it a bit different and it got over a hundred serious replies. Mark G closed a thread just the other day which celebrated hitting back, and it was unique and felt soo good to make after what happened. Closed as spam. Tonight a thread closed by Ming which dealt with a very common sense approach to racial profiling i heard on the radio and wanted to get opinions on. Because it was put in a humorous manner it was shut as spam.

Spam is getting some breaks perhaps, it's non spam that gets the axe.

Ticks me off more than a little, though I've made light of it elsewhere.
