I love golf and I still wouldn't buy it for that much. Golf games, I've found, are rarely worth it. The only thing going for this game is Sid, as far as I'm concerned.

Civ III is being published by Infogrames.

Sim Golf is being published by EA.

Now look at Firaxis' track record of making a TBS game for each company and you will find some even more revealing trends.

Civ III (Infogrames) - no demo, no MP, no public beta, no game delay

SMAC (EA) - demo, MP, game delay to make sure it is right,


And this fall, Sim Golf was delayed to the spring so we know that Firaxis can still delay games. They aren't the problem. The problem is the publisher. Please Firaxis, I beg you after Civ III, never do anything for Infogrames again!

Actually it is the other way around. The SIM franchise is considerably more valuable than the Civ franchise. Simulation type games far outsell strategy games. This is basically Infogrames saying those civfanatics will pay anything for Civ3. So bend over civfans.

I would have to agree with games like SimCity and The Sims, but SimGolf??? You have to be kidding, unless they did some amazing things with this game I can't see a whole lot of demand for it.

Sim games are more for the casual gamer than strategy games are.

I used to like sim city and a bunch of the other sim games, but then they got old and boring. Sim City 3000 was a ripoff.

Could someone please explain to me why on earth someone wants to sit their butt in a chair and pretend to play golf on a computer all day? You could go OUTSIDE and play it in REAL LIFE. I mean, with Civ3, I can't really be the leader of a civilization over 6000 years of history. But I can go play golf to my heart's content.

Reason SimGolf is cheaper--it was cheaper to make.

I took it back to Best Buy and screamed for my money back the next day. $40 for a cartooned-up version of SC2K that had a horrifically bad interface. No thank you!

I recently picked up a used copy for $10. That's worth it, as it does provide a little bit of an alternative "distraction" game.

I think you'd be amazed at how much money golf sims have raked in over the years. They can be played at any time, day or night irrespective of weather conditions and don't take 4 plus hours to complete. They don't cost a fortune in membership fees and you can play any course you like no matter how many thousands of miles away they are. It's also a lot easier to get a scratch handicap and you can play from the office

Golf business sims are a new breed and we'll have to see if they succeed or fail. I suspect the golf fanatics may well stay with the perfect game simulators which leaves commercial success down to the wannabe tycoons.

Well, because computer golf, or any other computer sport just isn't the same as physically playing the sport.

Before bashing a game atleast do some reasearch. SimGolf isn't going to be a golf game as a simulation on building a gold course and running it, Think RollerCoaster Tycoon. Plus if you don't want to pay 40-50 bucks for computer games you can thank those l33t H@ck0rs who pirate thems.

Well, hopefully Civ IV in five years is going to be far enough off that we don't need to worry about Infogrames. Either by them going out of business or being bought out by a better company such as EA or someone else.
