Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The most interesting was the wonder part, as it explains how the water works.
quote:
Which Wonders have been removed, which remain and why?

Jeff: We altered the effect of some wonders to ensure the spirit of the wonder took advantage of the new rules we added to the game. The Lighthouse is a good example of that, since we now have 3 types of ocean. Galleys still can travel the coasts safely and are at risk on seas (the second water type), but now Caravels can travel coasts and seas safely and are at risk on oceans(the third type). The Lighthouse now bumps up their safety net. So the Galleys are only in danger on Oceans, and Caravels can travel unhindered. Another thing we did was break up some of the major wonders into small wonders. The Manhattan Project is one such wonder. Instead of one civilization doing all the hard work for everyone, each civilization now would need to develop the small wonder independently to use nukes.

And that's the news about WoW's? That was the way some of the wonders worked in Civ1! Everyone had to build their OWN Manhattan Project before they could use nukes for example.

Sure it was, don't you remember the "NUCLEAR WEAPONS DETESTED IN xxxxxxx" (or words to that effect) message you would get if another nation developed the manhattan project. In fact that part was one of my personal gripes with Civ2. Why could everybody launch nukes once I developed MhP. Developing nuclear weapons costs time and manpower, it just didn't make sense in Civ2.

So in short Civ3 is something new, something old.

That doesn't mean it has to be a bad thing

I hope...

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

In Civ1 the "nuclear weapons detected" was a result of building a nuke, not building the manhattan project.

Did anyone note the bit about the Pieter Brughel painting as an inspiration for Civ3 artwork? You can see it at http://mexplaza.udg.mx/wm/paint/auth/bruegel/babel.jpg .

Verrrrryyyy Interesting Article. Support Apolyton

Items that stuck out to me were:

  • First time that I have found of how Armies work (units rotate damage, so you basically have to kill them all)
  • All rush buys, not just of wonders, require a Leader

Tired of ads?

I fogot to thank you for posting the link here- thanx

Very informative stuff. I also like the new 'wonders' scheme very much; its a lot more fun this way, with great and small wonders, as well as the improved 'effects' of the wonders.

God, this game is going to ROCK!

Increase Your PM Length

I hadn't heard this before; interesting stuff on unit upkeep:

"The biggest change is that the number of units you can support for free is based on your government type AND the number and types of your cities. Larger cities allow the free support units, but the exact number they allow is dictated by the government type. "
