Why does the game keep freezing up my comp? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I have only been playing this game for 1 week or so, but I have already seen many of its flaws. The most annoying is the constant freezing up of my computer.
I'm running windows 2K, and this freakin game just keep locking it up at random, both in Multiplay and singleplay.
At first, I thought it's the Mods that cuased this problem, but after a clean reinstall, the problem remains. I wasn't able to complete even one game.
Does anyone has similiar problem? and know anyway to fix it?

Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

what are you stats on your comp? What map sizes are you playing when if freezes? # of countries?

I've never had it freeze other than the time I tried to run a 999x999 map with 28 civs.... my old 333 PII couldn't handle that even the 500x500 was a little slow after 20 turns or so =) My new PIV has had no problems even running Win XP.
