Still having trouble changing graphics...because I'm a thickie. Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I managed to get my Gifextractor to behave properly... apparently, the .gif files you extract cannot be opened themselves - you actually have to open PSPro and then open a .gif file. So that's sorted.

However, I get odd color problems when I try to cut-and-paste faces onto these .gif files. (I am trying to change leaders' faces.) Does anybody know how to sort this problem out? Is it another one of these "uses its own color palette" situations?

And Hu Man Bing called me a thickie and refused to tell me how to do it. Which was great.

Sounds exactly like "uses its own color palette situations"!

In a nutshell, Civ2 operates with a limited number of colours (about 200) and uses a 256 colour indexed palette.

In order to avoid weird colours happening in your Civ2 graphics work, you need to save the colour palette of units.gif. Simply open that file in Pait Shop Pro and 'Colors > Save Palette' (call it Civ2.pal).

When you start working on graphics for Civ2, once you're past any resizing stage, it's best to load the Civ2.pal on the working graphic. From that point, your images should work fine.

Suffering from ads?

This is what I have done:

1. Extracted .gif file from the .dll file.

2. Saved said .gif file.

3. Attempted opening .gif file both by right clicking and left clicking.

4. This failed.

5. Asked HMB how to do this. Got called a pranny.

6. Found out that accessing the .gif from PSPro is the only way of opening it properly.

7. Opened .gif file, saving the palette that it used before I did anything else.

8. Edited .gif file.

9. Saved with correct properties etc.

10. Inserted .gif into .dll file.

11. Played Civ2.

12. Found out that the .gif is still right royally screwed.

13. Sought aid from HMB. Got called a thickie.

IT IS CLEAR I NEED HELP!!

(And if any of you know how to solve this problem please drop a line )

Whoops... sorry.

Hu Man Bing is come back and told me how it was done. I can't see what I did wrong, but evidently I did something incorrectly because he's done exactly what I did and it's turned out fine.

And he's called me a strawberry this time.

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

You know, it's always been easier, for me, to work only within PSP, and not bother with gifextrator...the newest version of PSP can open gifs and save gifs, so I'm not sure where the problem was...

Oh, well...

I use Gifextractor to open the .dll files to obtain certain graphics, which I then save as .gifs. Can your latest version of PSPro open .dll files?
