O/S X and Linux Full PM-box? Change here!

since it will be ported to Mac O/S X which is reportedly highly UNIX friendly, does this mean that the Mac O/S X port will be playable on all *NIX machines?

i.e. can i get the mac port to run on linux?

cool idea! Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Mac may have a FreeBSD core, but is it running X?

Either way, it would require porting....moderate graphical changes assuming it was written with portability in mind.
A Linux port would ensure I could dump Microsoft once and for all!

I have yet to find anything published by Infogrames that has been officially ported to Linux. It seems they have the same attitude many software publishers have about Linux, not enough users to warrant the investment of money into the project.

You could subscribe to transgaming and ask them to concentrate some efforts on getting Civ3 to run on Linux. While Civ3 supposedly runs under DirectX8 I don't think it goes very deep (2D interface). It could work.

Seems we're not the only ones who would like to run Civ3 under Linux.

Well some companies actually like to be paid for their services. You really didn't think these people work for free did you?

If you had bothered to read what this is about you would see that basically you hire the services of a group of programmers (Transgaming) who will work on the most popular games/programs. Once a certain level of subscriptions is reached they'll release the DirectX code as opensource. It's a win-win situation for all involved: subscribers get their programs earlier, the programmers get paid and once a certain level of subscriptions is reached it will be released for the public (long time off).
