	No AI Cheating??? Right Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

I thought that there was no AI cheating except on DIETY level, but in the avault stategy guide Jeff says,

"On higher difficulty levels, the production bonuses given to computer-controlled civilizations often mean players are constantly trailing in the research game. "

Are production bonuses considered cheating? - I think so. Is it only on DEITY level , maybe not according to the quote.....

IIRC, the computer "cheats" on all levels except for prince. It's just that on easier difficulty levels, it cheats against itself while on higher difficulty levels it cheats for itself.

Yah, I remember Firaxis posting info about cheating only on Diety too...I wonder what happened with that?? Perhaps, they found the game too easy and changed it just before the game went gold....

Production costs for the AI are a product of the difficulty level chosen. The AI is even with the player at King level in the older Civs. Barbarian strength and the number of content citizens before the first unhappy citizen also vary by difficulty level. In general these are not regarded as "cheats." When Firaxis says the AI "cheats" at Deity, he probably means things like:
- AI knows number of units per all other cities
- AI units recover strength more quickly
- Movement is simplified for AI
- Production from more than one city can be combined for wonder building
and so forth. These are "cheats" the Civ II people suspected. In that game, AI triremes never sank, AI governments never fell, AI always had only one round of anarchy between governments, and many others. (Check out the Civ II Great Library in the 'Civ2 - Strategy' forum.
