Too many mines in the screenshots? [putting 2 and 2 together] Remove this text

I don't know how many people put this together (and I assume I'm right about this), but what seemed to be an abberant AI behavior in a lot of the screenshots is actually just a side-effect of the new irrigation rules.

In some recent screens we saw that some civs were mining every single grassland square. Well, before electricity, if you don't have fresh water from a river available, this is your only terrain improvement option, cuz you can't irrigate from oceans.

So, are you saying that the AI is so stupid, that it can't think ahead and save the land for irrigation? (mines and irrigation don't mix)

You can always go back and irrigate, which will replace the mines. No point in waiting 200 turns for electricity, it's probably more productive to build mines and later replace them with irrigation, even though it may require more work.

Wow! Before now I was under the impression that mining grassland planted forests, which has less food produce. Now yoe keep the food production plus get the shield bonus. This is much better!

I plan on getting access to a river and creating a continent wide irrigation system. I know that it would be hard, but that's my plan.

I think this is what is going to have to be done Jason. I am not convinced that this is a terribly good idea (limited water access to irritation), unless there are plenty of rivers on the map.

Hehehe, sounds to me like irritation is just what irrigating may end up being...
