let's discuss "mobilization" Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I noticed that mobilization has changed. There was a preview that said that it increased/decreased costs of city improvements but here is a direct quote from the civ3 FAQ:

quote:

Another benefit of Nationalism is the ability to mobilize your civilization for war. When a Civ is mobilized for war, all cities building a military unit produce one extra shield in every square that is already producing at least one. However, a mobilized Civ may only build military units and military city improvements, and may not build peacetime improvements.

This sounds really interesting. +1 shield in every shield producing tile will really boost a cities ability to produce units faster. As a result, it looks like wars will be more intense in civ3, after nationalism.

Also, civs with the military/industrious ability will definitely get even more of a boost from mobilization since they already get a production bonus and a stronger army!

Can we think of any other interesting effects "mobilization" will have on our civ3 strategies?

That's not strictly true. Proportionately industrious players will gain less from mobilisation. However, if they surprise an enemy civilization who does not have nationalism and is not industrious, their production advantage could be a killer.

Edit: Doh, wrong. The industrious nations will actually get more of a bonus if they have cities on squares that wouldn't normally produce shields, but do because the civ is industrious.

That means that the Chinese, with Nationalism and Communism as their government would be very good at war. They could pump out units like nobodies business faster and cheaper than anyone else can. While the Zulus are the civ most known for war (in the game) I think the Chinese would be very good at it, especially in the Middle Ages where they have that nice Rider (which I'll be calling Tang Knights).

Oh the possibilites. With an extra production to every tile you could match that of a factory, what a great advantage for a quick pumping out of units. Hmmm.. hope the AI knows how to use it, or it might make the AI a sitting duck.
