Naval Skirmish in Eastern Mediterranean

Turkish destroyers, sailing from Alliance-held ports in the eastern Mediterranean for standard patrols, came upon and sank a French destroyer that was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The Turkish destroyer flotilla then returned to port to repair the battle damage.

German Raiders Prowl Near Malta

The inhabitants of the British-occupied island of Malta have reported seeing smoke on the horizon, followed by the approach of a pair of armored cruisers flying the German flag. The cruisers scouted the coast briefly before heading back out into the central Mediterranean before British forces could arrive in the area.

Cruiser Scharnhorst Sinks British Destroyer in East China Sea

The German cruiser Scharnhorst, sailing from the German enclave of Kiaochow Bay in China, sank a British destroyer in the East China Sea while on patrol. The cruiser then put back into port with the destroyer's survivors, who will live out the war in a POW camp where no doubt they will get better food and treatment than they did while in the service of the Royal Navy.

German Troops Liberate French Benin, British Nigeria

German ground forces, striking from Lome in German Togoland have advanced and captured the British city of Lagos, completing their conquest of the French colony of Benin and the British colony of Nigeria. The locals reportedly cheered the arrival of the German troops, no doubt hearing of the rumors of how well Germany treats her colonial subjects compared to the brutality and slavery of the English and the French.

Zeppelins Bomb Russia

A squadron of German zeppelins, battle-hardened from campaigns in the skies over England, has been transferred to the Eastern Front were it conducted a raid into the Russian countryside, bombing Russian troops on the ground below. German artillery units stationed in Breslau to the north made quick work of Russian troops advancing against into Silesia. The war continues to be taken to the hated enemy, with no Entente troops on German, Austrian, or Turkish soil at all whatsoever.

Salonika Captured

After a lengthy artillery barrage and bombardment by the Third Zeppelin Geschwader, German, Austrian, Turkish, and Bulgarian troops have pushed the last British and Entente forces out of the Greek city of Salonika. The city was taken largely intact, along with its fortifications, troop barracks, and coastal defenses. During their withdrawal, the British destroyed the city's church, which has caused some discontent and no end of anger among the local Greek population towards the British. The news of the taking of Salonika comes as Field Marshal von Scottsendorff has hinted at an even larger and more massive offensive against Entente forces, likely a new push to capture Paris and knock France out of the war.

Apparently Hans is being held up by a technical glitch. He recently installed Windows XP, and apparently it hates everything to do with DOS (including my batch file to set up the various files). Does anyone know how to get those batch files to work under Windows XP?

Hans sent me his password. In turn, I sent him the files already set up so he didn't need the batch file. He didn't say whether he'll play his turn or not now (I am assuming that he will), so we'll wait a day or so for him to play.

Windows XP is missing the choice.com file which makes choice-style operations for batch files a possibility. I would post it here but no telling what M$ will do to me. It is however, easily locateable on a p2p service such as Kazaa.

Is adding choice.com the only thing that you need to do in order to make batch files work properly? Are there any settings or command lines that need to be changed?

And since we are all tired of waiting on Hans, I did his turn. All is quiet on the American front.

Here is the file. For some reason my internet connection doesn't like Apolyton and won't let me upload it as an attachment. I don't have a lot of net space left, so I will be deleting this file after the next person posts their turn.

Tientsin (from our correspondants).- Royal Navy reports from the Bombard of Tientsin have reported that the Royal Navy's Pacific Squadron opened fire on troop positions in and around Tientsin. The nature and surprise of the attack caused the defenders to rout immediatelly and all in all two to three Hun regiments were reportedly destroyed by British shore bombardments.

Royal Air Force Formed
London.- The King presented to General Vandeleur the command of the newly formed Royal Air Force. The RAF (as it is not called by the troops affectionatelly) was ordered to form by the King himself in order to repel the German airships, as well as to patrol the English Channel and North Sea for German shipping that may be hostile to Britain. All in all, Britain can no claim the skies with several squadrons of fighter planes that are already in the air protecting Britain from the evil Hun!

Confederate patriots in the occupied territories are resorting to a variety of methods to resist Yankee tyranny. Outside of refusal to follow outlandish Yankee demands, word reaches us that in occupied Kentucky, patriots have widely circulated posters denouncing Yankee imperialism, right under their own noses. US forces claim to have broken up associations loyal to the CSA, but our blood is doubtlessly too strong to suffer from such minor setbacks, and all loyal Confederate citizens are doing their best to undermine Yankee occupation, while they await the inevitable liberation of their lands.
