Anywabody else going to try to ignore strategies posted on this board Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

I think it's more fun just figuring out stuff yourself. Also It can really hurt your enjoyment of the game if people find little ways to take advantage of the AI or bugs in the game. You cann't complain about about the AI if your going to reading strategies on this board.

"Do or do not- there is no try." -Yoda Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Since no one has the game yet, I must confess that my confidence in anyone's strategies thus far is nigh nill.

I too like to just figure things out for myself.

You are right, but there are strategies on AVALUT form Civ3 programmers (it doesn't mean that they are relly good).

Same here. So much so, I might stop coming here once I have the game, so I can avoid seeing ways to beat this or that. Or at least I'll avoid certain threads.

Also, I enjoyed your "12 Days of Civmas" !

Sure, there are inherent 'dangers' involved in following the exploit threads. But you can always NOT exploit the AI even if you read the threads.

I think this gets back to how you see yourself in all this: If you are here to simply enjoy the game and keep it as challenging as possible and discover things for yourself, then I'd recommend NOT coming to Apolyton for a few weeks at least.]

However, some other people are interested in truly understanding the mechanics behind the AI and finding its weaknesses. This is great fun to some people. And if that knowledge can then be sent back to Firaxis in a way that will help them tweak the AI in a future patch, all the better.

Put an end to popups!

I can happily and confidently say two things -

1 : I have never followed a strategy posted on a forum.

2 : I have never beat the game on any level harder than prince.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I have to say I agree, I want my experience of Civ 3 to be fresh and exicting. Going in armed with others strategies just ruins the fun of discovery and the joy of meeting the challenges of the game of your own back.

Hurrah for Ignorance!

Not me! Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I'm going to watch these forums for various strategies, which are usually duplicable.

My incredulousness at trying something and watching it actually work is something I wouldn't have previously believed. makes me feel like I'm vicariously playing like a really good player.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Im going to watch these forums for any interesting tactics, and when i eventually get the game (grrr Infogames) ill try the ones i think are interesting, and ignore those i think break the game.

Ive never tried ICS, or OCC, or built massive loads of caravans to get a huge science bonus. Then again, im not an elite player, but i have fun

Did not beat the AI in Civ II at the king level and higher until I read some great ideas in the Civ II strategy section. Just learn to take everything with a gran on salt.

Tired of ads?

Great idea for a thread.
I have been wondering the same thing myself after Vel et al wrote/discussed so many great strategy ideas for SMAC. Nowadays in SMAC I feel there will always be a way to win and that spoilt the game a bit for me.

I actually liked trying to work out what was going on for myself and liked the game being a bit out of control.

Maybe the best is to look to strategies if you have plateaued at a level where you cannot beat the game on its hardest settings and are becoming bored/frustrated.
