Short Wonder Movies? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

In the Avault review, the reviewer states:

quote:
Civilization III does include full-motion video clips when you build a Wonder, but these are much shorter than those in Civilization II and only run for a few seconds.

(Imran also noticed this, btw)

Is anyone else as upset about this as I am? Had anyone heard of this before?

For me, one of the best things about building a wonder, and one of the largest contributors to "One More Turn" gameplay, was the wonder movies.

As implemented in Civ 2, they were a revelation (Statue of Liberty, anyone? Why would you build Statue of Liberty EXCEPT for the wonder movie?), and in SMAC, they went from exciting (Cloudbase Academy in SMACX) to funny (argh, that Morgan one, Information Networks?)

Now this one review would suggest that the videos have been de-emphasized. I have to admit, looking at the wonder movies was one of the things that I was looking forward to over the next few days...

Heck, even CTP had some cool wonder movies...

Hell yes I totally agree with you about the value of the movies.

I loved the voices in SMAC. Like that old Chinese voice explaining to me the how my discovery in fusion-powered glow-in-the-dark underwear changed the way people travelled.

But I was first told when I asked, that the movies were gone totally, replaced by "reward screens". I'm just glad that we get any at all.

I'm not worried about it. I would prefer that the movies arn't that long because I would have turned them off anyway. With them being short, they won't be too obstructive, and I won't have the urge to shut it off.

I'd prefer long WM's too. Just wondering how
those new ones look like...

No one said you had to turn them off... but many of us would have liked the mere option of turning them on. As said elsewhere they were often an entertaining reward that was a refreshing break sometimes as well. At the VERY least Sid could have included an "attach movie" for the options allowing the players to move the movies they liked best from Civ2 & CtP into this game. Hopefully the patches & expansion will provide more options.

Whoever wrote that review was dead wrong. The wonder screens have no video motion at all. It is a picture. There is a change of lighting on the picture (from shadowy to bright). That's it. No motion. If a reviewer can't tell the difference between video motion and shading changes...

For all you enterprising modders:

Is there any way to import the Wonder movies from Civ2 to Civ3?

That is, for the Wonders that match from each game, of course

Put an end to popups!

Maybe it's a video file, although containing no moving objects. That would kinda explain the weird review.
