It would be nice if there was a pop up message box stating that you had made contact with another civ and offer an opportunity to talk with them.
Currently you have to guess whether that contact was made and then click on the Diplomacy button to see if that civ is listed. I'd rather have the game tell me explicitly.

i agree.
so far it seems that there's a lotta little problems like that in the game, mostly interface problems, a patch should be able to fix it all.
