yeah, its a lake with "coast" water, and on the top of the lake (no where near where im irrigating) there are about 3 squares of "sea" water.

Yeah, there's a little bit of forest around the area too, but i cant irrigate on the plains or grassland.

well, if there's sea water in it, it probably counts as a salt water lake. no good for anything except pickled cabbages

There seems to be some bugs in the info, however, for certain squares. This has already been reported.

No, the 3 squares of sea water that are in the lake are at the TOP of lake, im trying to irrigate on the bottom of the lake using the COAST water, and ive used that same water to irrigate to my other cities, but it wont work now.

Look at the image. The lake is being reported as Coast, in which case you might not be able to use it as 'fresh' water. Now as for how you did before and it won't now ... no ideas. But there seems to be some trouble with the comp knowing which water is which.

First, is the lake adjacent square reporting "coast" as in this case? That's an important first question. For uploading screens, there's an 'attach file' function at the bottom of your posting screen. Try to keep the file small(ish), however, just for the sake of load times.

yes, the square adjacent is a "coast square".

What you describe is a sea. If memory serves me correctly a lake is only one square large.

So you're saying that i can only irrigate from rivers and one-square lakes? not from the the coast?

That's definitely not how Civ looks at it. In my last game, I had perhaps a 30 square lake surrounded by land. My guess (guess!) is that if any of the water touches the poles, it's ocean. If it doesn't, it's lake.

If you were able to irrigate around that 30 square lake I must have been wrong. I checked the manual and it said nothing constructive about lakes.
Though if you look at a 30 square lake and compare it to the toal size of the world map it would be larger than many seas.

Get a bigger avatar today!

I'm pretty sure that is an inland ocean

lakes have a different appearance. I have one in my game

I may be wrong, but I think a lake square really is a coast square that is not connected to a sea or ocean square.

Good Lord!

Once again, from the dictionary:

quote:
coast (kst)
n.

Land next to the sea; the seashore.
Coast The Pacific Coast of the United States.

Now kindly re-read, starting from Imran's post. Enjoy.

That seems logical, but in the Civilopedia and the manual, "Coast" produces 1/0/2 while "Lake" produces 2/0/2. In the game, both types of terrain are reported with the name "Coast."

However, from my tests, if a Coast is reported as producing 2/0/2 then you can use it to irrigate.
