Bug with Editor Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I've tried a few times to make a "custom rule set" with the editor, but when I load the "scenario" something goes freaky with the tech tree... the "lines" connecting the techs are all messed up and you can't change to a different tech once you've started researching... or set a tech goal. I didn't alter any on the tech stuff except the "Tech Rate" under the map size tab... has anyone else experience this?

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

The editor (I think you might know) was put in at the last minute. Expect a number of editor issues to be 'fixed' in the patch. Please post in the 'Help' forums under Korn's 'bug' thread.

I seriously doubt Firaxis would release the game if there was a bug in the editor

Well there seems to be a bug... I made a custome rule set with NO CHANGES from the default rules, and the problem still exists. See for yourself, open the editor & uncheck the use default rules. Save it, fire up civ3 load the "scenario"... start the game and check out the science advisor and you'll see what I mean.

It's ver annoying!

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Hiya,

I posted this yesterday night in the general forum, and have been talking with Dan in regards to it in the Creation fourm.

Please check there.

The thead is titled 'BIG problem with editor', and yes, it seems to be a bug that doesn't allow you to use the science advisor without having default rules checked. The moment you turn them off, the science advisor screen locks up totally.

Best Regards,

Scott

When not using the default ruleset, the tech connections change to different art to allow for dynamic connection of techs (which allows you to change the prerequisites).

Hiya Mike,

Dan explained that last night in another thread, but there seems to be more too it than just that aspect.

There is a rather large thread on this in the Creation forum.

It seems that, no matter WHAT one does, by enabling rules editor (one doesn't even need to change anything -- merely turn it on) and then saving the scenario under whatever.bic, when one loads the scenario and then attempts to click in ANY way on the various techs in the Science Advisor screen, nothing at all happens.

In effect, it freezes entirely, to the point of where you can't even click to view the civilopedia (right click.)

One doesn't have to alter the tech tree, or for that matter, anything at all.

Simply selecting it and generating a random map, then saving the map (no changes to the rules, but default rules 'off') effetively disables the Science advisior TOTALLY and makes it impossible to change techs mid-stream in a scenario game.

Even more disconcerting is that if one selects the 'show me the big picture option', it hangs the game completely. One cannot move to the various advisors since a tech hasn't been chosen, and since one cannot choose a tech from said screen, the only exit is to Windows key out of the game and shut it down manually.

I've given a detailed explaination of the process to re-create this situation in the Civ-Creation forum, in the thread:

"BIG problems with editor."

Best Regards,

Scott

(p.s. Thanks to ALL of you at Firaxis for taking the time to assist us. It's truly a refreshing feeling to know that those who worked on the game actually ARE taking the time to concern themselves with the end users. It's also VERY VERY rare and EXTREMELY impressive! )
