Palette Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Is it possible to change the game palette? I'd like the game ot look lighter, like it does in the late beta pics on the back of the box. Adjustion the gamma just can't get the colors I'm looking for.

What file (s) do I need to modify?

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I guess if you want to do that then you have to go to palette.pcx , change the colours and save the palette as a file called (for eg.) change.pal, and load up this new palette on EVERY single graphics file in your SMAC folder (including the tech, facs, and proj subfolders) - a very hard task inded. If you however wish to undertake it, you will need to change all the background colours in (eg.) Gaians3.pcx, Hive3.pcx, etc. into the last colour of the palette (make it pink, both on the palette and the picture).

RGE's Drab Texture Tired of ads?

Back in April I downloaded the attached alternate for the landscape -- the colors of the ground. It is a 149KB file called "DrabSMAC.zip". I can't remember where I found it. The guy called himself "RGE", so if he sees this (or someone else knows where I got it), I hope he claims or gets credit. These are his own words from his README (included in the zip):

A rather drab texture file for Alpha Centauri.
Ground is sandy brown instead of reddish brown, mountains are light grey instead of sandy brown, ground fungus is orange and green instead of red, magrails are grey with dark bluegreen dots instead of cyan with orange dots and finally, roads are trackmarks instead of broad dirttracks.

Rename the original texture.pcx and unzip this texture.pcx file into the Alpha Centauri directory.

RGE

I unzipped it into a working folder I have for SMAC customizing. Then I made a copy named "drabtexture.pcx" and moved that to the SMAC directory. I also made a copy of the original "texture.pcx" named "textureSID.pcx". When I want to use "drabtexture.pcx", I simply copy it to "texture.pcx". When I want to switch back, I copy "textureSID.pcx" to "texture.pcx". This way I never lose the two main files.

Ugh, tried to d/l the file, got some strange result.
When i click on the link, i get the save file window, but rather then being able to save the .zip file, i save an "attachment.php" file. Cannot open it 'f course.
Oh, i'm using netscape6 BTW

:hmmm: Enter the AD-FREE zone

Might it be a Netscape thing? I just checked it with my Explorer 5.5 and it works. I'd be glad to email it to you direct. Send me your email in a Private Message here if you want.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

No worry, i've been able to d/l it using IE. I'll probably never know if this is really a Netscape issue, or because i refuse nearly every cookie. Who said i'm paranoid?
