A sapnking new problem, unlike any other--HELP Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

Here it goes:

I wanted to reistall civ3, don't ask me why. Just because I didn't like the partition it was in and did not want to cut and paste. I said it was my fault as civ3 was workin gfine before I messed it up.

I messed it up by deleting the folder with out using the proper uninstall program. I just deleted the program and sent it to the garbage can. Then when I tried setup it does not do it.

1)click setup
2)It sees I had civ3 on my computer an makes me pick remove program button
3)It can't find any programs to remove so it just stops an quits, no error.

I tried everything I could to make the computer forget it had civ3 on it before, including scouring the registry. But it still does't work.
I am using WIN2000, and there must be some crutial file somewhere that I am missing does anyone know what it is, or how this problem can be fixed.

Much thanks

You probably need to edit your registry now.
I won't even try to guess which registry keys you need to delete, but a BIG word of warning: editing your registry incorrectly can seriously FUBAR Windows!

With that being said- restart Windows in MS-DOS, and type in scanreg/backup at the prompt. This will create a backup of your Windows registry, in case you mess anything up. [If you do, btw, just ask me and I will help you restore it.] Then type in 'exit' to go back to Windows when the backup is done.

Now, if you go to your Start Menu, and go to Run, type in regedit. This opens the Windows registry editor. If you do a search for things like Infogrames, Firaxis, and CIV/civilization, etc., you will find out where all the keys are located. Delete these, and hopefully you will be able to install CivIII again.

But like I said- don't delete anything that looks important, or that you are not sure what it is!

And maybe someone wiser than I will know the exact keys necessary to do this. But you should be pretty safe in deleting anything that is Civ3 related in the registry now; just use a little common sense when you are in there editing and you should be fine.

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

I did I even even used regcleaner. But what happens is that civ 3 setup screen sais install, but when I try to it asks me to dlete the old program. If I press okay, it can't find anything to dlete so it gives the finish screen and stops. This is under win2000, and I repeat the game worked fine before.

So I think thr emust be some crutuial key that tells civ 3 it was on my computer before, I need someone to tell me how to override that.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Go to C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\ and look through the folders there. In each one should be an .ini file. If you open that file it should tell you which folder is CivIII's. Delete that folder and it should reset the installshield information so you can reinstall.

*edit--the location may be different depending on your Win2k user setup, but it should still be something along the lines of an InstallShield Installation Information directory.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Oh yeah, the location may be a bit different depending on your Win2k users setup, but it should still be in an Installshield Installation Information directory.
