I can't believe there is even one person that voted banana(to keep the banner). You guys do know that 'Yes' means you want rid of the banner right?

I tried following the link to figure out how I could contact these a**holes that made this banner, because I've also seen it elsewhere besides apolyton, but the page didn't have any contact information, just a stupid form. I understand that advertising money is necessary to keep a site like this running, but allowing an ad like this is aggravanting and flagrantly irresponsible, and is a liability for apolyton.

I take it you are referring to a "legal" liability, BFBA? The answer to this is no; if the banner can be categorized as something that should be changed due to overwhelming and widespread aggrevation with it (and I am not saying whether or not I feel it is or isn't as I have yet to see it myself), it would be the responsibility of the advertiser themselves and perhaps even the advertising agency to do something about it (in Apolyton's case, UGO).

Oh, yes I think it is more of a liability for the advertiser.

I thought apolyton had some sort of control(like limiting certain kinds of ads) over what the banners showed.

Anyway, I turned of animated gif's on my web browser so now I only see stationary ad's.

It's a marketing ploy. Put something really interesting or unusual next to the product you want to sell. People are drawn to the interesting gimick, and, as a result, will usually buy your product.

In this case, by putting 'banana' as a choice instead of a 'no', you catch people's attention. People hit 'banana' because it's an interesting choice.

Personally, I could care less about the flashing banners. It's the annoying pop up ads that I keep seeing that annoy me.
