I think there better choices for the chinese UU than the rider (which I think it's still ok).
The most prominent one I think would be the crossbowmen. During the end of the Three Kingdom era, the multiple firing crossbow was invented...althought it came too late to have any significant impace on the outcome. It could have stats 3/1/1 or 2/2/1 if the bowman is changed to 2/1/2.
