I know there was one of these threads recently, but I didn't follow it too well, and i can't find it now. And my friends and I were having an argument about this today, so I'm curious as to the results of this. . So, what do YOU prefer?

Rand,
It's judgemental alright in as much as there are a thousands way of being a fellow human within each of those four options in the poll. Over simplified, biased generalization is what this is.
And thus inappropriate.
People's sexual orientation says nothing about who they are. Only their individual values, opinions and conduct do. |
I don't think the point of this poll was to say anything about our personalities, but rather just about which gender we prefer. I don't see any judgment there, since most of the people I know have defined their sexuality one way or the other, without judging themselves in any way. It is only inappropriate to ask if you don't wish to answer questions about your sexuality... and should you not want to discuss the subject, you could steer clear of the threads discussing it.
As for me, I'm gay, although I wonder why the bi-curious option only has the explanation "being open to the possibility of trying same-sex, but know that you like opposite sex". Nowhere could I see an option of "being open to the possibility of trying the opposite sex but knowing you like same sex".

You're right, I should probably stay out of a thread like this. Too narrowminded for my tastes.
Enjoy reassuring eachother on your stereotypes. Call me up if you'd like an alternative take. |
I wonder what stereotypes of ours you are talking about? I agree with you and PH in that there are certainly no 100% gay or straight people and that people should like whatever they feel comfortable with. Of course, in an ideal society, sexual preferences should have no significance whatsoever, so you wouldn't have to define yourself in any way particular. As things are in our society today, identifying yourself as gay, however, is often an important step in accepting your sexuality, should you not feel it fits the heterosexual norm still often prevalent well enough. I am glad to see, though, that more and more often young people are starting to question the need for limiting stereotypes as regards your gender and sexual behaviour.
Keeping that in mind, however, I wouldn't refuse to say that I tend to prefer guys to girls, if someone should wish to know that, and the simplest way of saying that is calling myself "gay". What's the point of refusing to answer the question? I would, however, wish to hear your alternative take on the subject, if you are able to explain it without calling us narrowminded once again.

Even though there is a good deal of trouth in winston's ranting, it is actually inapropriate here and under the given circumstances.
This is an Apolyton poll, another ticklish excercise to make some decent fun, without really trying to "define" what whoever on this board is all about - actually I have seen a number of this type of threads around here and none of them sounded "insulting" - just a bit trolling maybe
So, winston, relax buddy, nobody wants to know wether you like men, women, sheep, goats (you forgot the goat option, silly!!!! Where shall the goat lovers put their vote for? Goats ain't women or men, they are ...goats?!) berry bushes or whatever.
Enjoy life, enjoy sex, enjoy civ3 - you mind us talking about the rest of the things we enjoy?
