AI has no repect for soveirgnty! Got spare money?

Grrrr. AI is pissing me off. It keeps stompin it's troops across my territory to fight foreign wars. I ask them to stop and they say they will but don't. I am no weakling but I don't want to fight a war just because the AI seems bugged. Any way to stop them without going to war with every AI that invades my soil? It's almost like I have given them right to passage but they haven't given it to me. They get real pissed if I walz into thier territory. The AI seems to be bugged.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Personally I just give everyone right of passage, and let them fight it out. I like to think that it's better if they vent their aggression on some other civ across the continent, than if they vented it on their only neighbor: me.

Besides, a little war is good for them. It keeps them dumping shields and money into obsolete units, instead of researching and building improvements to their cities.

Sometimes I'll even be generous and give the losing guy a few modern units and some money. Wouldn't want a jolly good world war to end to soon

Just wanted to add, though, that I'd at least like to be able to charge them for using my railroads. Dunno, maybe like 1 gold per unit per dozen squares travelled. I could make a living just as a travel agent for armies

This is a valid point, tho. The AI doesn't play by the same rules we have to.

If we want to fight a country on the other side of the AI, we get a right of passage agreement, correct?

The AI *NEVER* bothers with this. He just stonks on through.

If you baricade your borders with troops, he'll just move along to the next gap and ... stonk on through.

If you ask him not to, he says 'okay' and the next move he stonks on through.

In one game I asked the Indians to remove their 20 elephants *EVERY* turn for almost the entire game. Every turn he said 'okay', and then every turn I had to sit through his 20 units moving into my land again.

No, the AI *does* need to respect soveirgnty (sp?) more. Well, just at all would be good.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I really hope they fix this in the patch. It kind of ruins the game, IMO. How can you have fun building a Nation through the ages when the computer can use you for an international highway? I'm only in 1200 AD. I can't wait for tanks, mech. infantry, and (gasp) nuclear weapons using my country as a passing lane.

Yeah the AI assume they always got a ROP agreement from us!

If they trespass my territory i will always exchange ROP with them. Let them fight and I will build up my army in this period. After their war is over it's time for the revenge!

Enter the AD-FREE zone

I've found that a simple "remove your forces" message never works ... they always say "okay" and then keep on moving.

You *have* to use "Remove them or declare war" - which seems really quite drastic. Picking a fight like this can be somewhat detrimental, depending on your stage of development, and I always hate doing it against the romans in the early game.

Ofcourse, they remove their units and the very next move cross your borders again.

This underlines the dumbness of the AI. There is no sense or reason, it isn't thinking anything through or - more importantly - it has no sense of memory "Oh yeah, I said I wouldn't do this only last turn ..."

Right on, Kolyana!
AI seems to ignore warnings until it gets to the "Remove your troops or declare war" point.
Thus, it is better not to ask them to leave every turn, but to wait for them to spend about 3 turns within your territory. Then you will get "Remove your troops or declare war" option, which seems to scare AI at least to some extend

You know what I had recently?

I asked the French to leave my territory ... and they moved DEEPER and into a pocket of no mans' land right in the middle of my empire.

Oh yea, this was a lot of fun ... because now they couldn't go anywhere except into my land.

I like how you repeatedly tell them to get out and they move across your land anyways and plop a city 3 tiles from my capitol. Of course, it's a no-man's land that is completely surrounded by my territory.

Oh, and I love it when Russia, who I have a military alliance with but no ROP, moves 30 units through my territory to fight the romans. I said I would help you but I didn't say you could use MY territory to stage your attacks from!

I don't really think the AI is that stupid. Just stupid about borders. I SURE hope they fix this in the patch cause it's incredibly annoying. I would understand if the particular AI was incredibly powerful and doesn't care if you declare war on it but ALL 16 CIVS DO IT! (Gotta love 16 civ, huge map games tho) 8)
