Firaxis, correct starting locations for civs? Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Civ 1 had a feature. When you played the world map, all the civs started at their historic locations. This was good.

Civ 2 had the same feature. When you played the world map, all the civs started at their historic locations. This was also good.

So.

Krhm.

*Gets a loudspeaker*

*Gets an even bigger loudspeaker and places it in front of the first loudspeaker*

Why isn't this feature in Civ3?

Part of the excitement of playing in world map was that "recreating history" aspect. Seeing your Roman empire grow out from Italy and then get smashed by Zulus, who had all that space in Africa to grow up from. Seeing your Greek state take over Middle East and then get smashed by Zulus, who had all that space in Africa to grow up from. Seeing your French... In any case, I've always felt that playing world map with all the civs mixed up was nothing short of sacrilegous. French in Australia? Romans in South America? Stop it, there are little green goblins evacuating from my head! Having those civs popping up in remote locations after another had been defeated was bad enough, but having to play with them ALL mixed up... infamy!

When Civ3 came out in Finland, I bought it. I've played it since. It's a great game and I love it a bunch, but since you can't have correct starting locations, I've had to confine myself to random maps. They're good enough, but I want my real map fix, and I want it now. And now Firaxis has put out their patch schelude without real locations. This must not stand. If it means extra time to wait or extra megs to download, I care not. I want my correct starting locations.

For inevitable "Why wasn't this in the other thread" whiners, the question was asked several times and Firaxis didn't answer. I figured that if I start a thread of it's own, maybe they'll notice it or something.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

And maybe worst than that is the astounigly short amount of rivers in the whole world!

And I loved to play the Earth map in Civ 1 and Civ 2.

Got spare money?

I had the same feeling. I love to play the earth map.

First the bad news. DAN responded to my query about this in
another thread not sure if it was here or over at civfanatics.

Short. Not in Patch, Belongs to Editor not the game. Will it be added? he could not say..

I don't like the last part.

Now to the good news. Thanks to the community of civers there
is a solution around this. Just check out this forums and civfanatics
there are a very good instruction post on this subject takes 30 seconds for you to fix.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Well, I've found some program, but still, it's so basic it almost makes me scream that Firaxis hasn't included this.

Yes, this request does not seem unreasonable. And why it wasn't originally conceived and allocated in production is puzzling.

Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

Historical starting location is something I really would like to see in civ3 too. Lets hope it will be in the next patch.

The "historical atmosphere" when playing a real world map just isn't quite there without it.

Remove this text

now that they got all the major problems out of the way, the next patch will add a few things hopefully like:
1) correct starting locations
2) stacked movement
3) option of making your armies fight or give in when the city is gonna depose.
