Hi. Im a semi-newbie to civIII and loving it. Playing 3 weeks straight now. I'm starting a new game and trying to get my cities flying but I'm wondering why when I irrigate a tile(grassland) I don't see the numbers of foods increase from 2 to 3 using the cityview. Any help will be appreciated.

Maybe you are under despotism givernment, where tiles with base food 2 or greater cannot increase food production by irrigation?

What happens under Despotism (and Anarchy) is that the 3rd food, shield or gold from each tile is lost. If the tile has exactly 2 food (like grassland), irrigating will do no good. If it has 3 or more food, irrigating will help. E.g. floodplain has 3 food (you only get 2 under despotism as the 3rd one is lost), irrigating will give you 3 food now and 4 once you change governments.
