I've noticed that in all the games I've played so far my future tech score is always 0... what things in the game can raise this score?

The problem is that right now, future techs...don't. Get you points, that is. In a recent game I was going at a future tech every 4 to see how many points I could get. Around Future Tech 7 I checked the histograph. Future Tech Score = 0.0. Marked it as a bug, triple ICBM'ed the last AI city and moved in. Dunno if you need more than seven future techs to have a discernible FT score.
