mesmerize

that is the correct way to spell it according to the British Oxford Dictionary and the American Wevser's Dictionary.

Which is different to the way PH wants it spelt, and the way that the news item spelt it.

Well according to my dictionary you can use either actually But we all know that -ize is a crude bastardisation of the English language

Thats about the sise of it. Can I have a prise for two examples that break your above statement?

Actually I have a dictionary from 1950 and it places the -ize use above/before the -ise use in many cases. In others it does place -ise first (eg. Industrialise). So it is not a new "US invasion" of language. It is just your xenophobia.

Finally, I do hope you are not saying that Queen Liz I & II had their names influenced by a bastardization of the language?

The game is called "Civilization", if you call it "Civilisation" it is like me calling the band "Gorillaz", "Gorillas". Its just plain wrong.
