	This game is unbelievable!! Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

Is anyone else following Defcon?

It is basically a modern political and economic simulator.

Click on game on the left and especially check out the screenshots. If this game lives up to half its potential it will make the Civ franchise look like a child's toy in comparison.

Why the hell aren't there any previews of this one in the game magazines?

These two games along with whatever Paradox (maker of EU) is cooking up adds up to a veritable explosion of strategy games which are also complex simualations.

Yeah with games as ambitious and novel as this there is always the possibility of a buggy mess.

But it's not as if established companies like Firaxis produce flawless products either.

Defcon...I remember downloading a very early alpha. It was only placeholder art and whatnot. But this is looking absolutely amazing, Shadow President taken to a new height.

Actually, Republic has been getting some really goods reviews for many months now. I'm totally stoked!

Defcon looks pretty cool. Hope it lives up to the hype.

The AI is very much based on real world simulation. The UN does not exist, the EU does not exist, NATO does not exist, the WTO does not exist. But there is a global fund for poor nations. Contributing to it increases international reputation, Which pays off if you expect to get things done. There is a "Nato". But it is equally represented in pacts. There is all sorts of interesting real-world options.

We have been working on the AI for almost a year now. We have made it to the point where some of the AI is Unique . Some are Warmongers yet others are Capitalists or Anti-Capitalist. There are Pacifists and Economic powerhouses as well.

Certain nations like India/Pakistan and Iran/Iraq are on alert. War does break out between the AI. So far we have seen that the AI is capable making rational combat decisions. And yet, rational mistakes. Such as using special weapons when they feel there very existence and power maybe threatened.
