CPT - Civilization Placement Tool Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

CivPlacementTool (CPT) is made to move civs in a Civilization III save game.
It uses the same format (CPF) as Civ3MultiTool (C3MT), but does NOT require any part of C3MT to run.
CPT is programmed in C++, and should be easier to get running then C3MT. It is also smaller, and it is harder to corrupt a SAV.

CPT does not currently have full support for all functions in the CPF format, but the must common functions are in.

CPT also has mush less error handling then C3MT, and can't load corrupt SAVs.

Version history
--------------------------------------
v1.00
- Can move civs according to a CPF-file, and get the FOW right.
v1.01
- Takes command line parameters
v1.02
- Bug fixed whit lower number of civs then number of entries in the CPF file
v1.03 (only emailed to a few people that had problems)
- Default extensions added to the dialogs
v1.04
- Fixed to work with v1.17f
v1.05
- Upgraded to work with compressed SAVs (1.21f)

List of unsupported functions
--------------------------------------
* CPT does not read any Rules, and uses only the ID for not in-game-renamed civs.
* Only the default FOW format for the CPF-files is supported (but the alternate (original) format is not official, so that shouldn't hurt anyone but me)

Redistribution
--------------------------------------
This tool is not as subjected to change as C3MT, and I'll allow any map creator to include it with his map.
As long as the readme is maintained, and the site (this thread) where they can check for updated versions of this tool is listed in your own readme.
You should also always check if a new version has been released before upgrading your version.

Once more for all that had/have problem with the CopyTool:
This tool is not made in VB, and does not require vb-riuntimes.

v1.00 replaced with v 1.01 after 12 downloads
v1.01 replaced with v 1.02 after 626 downloads
v1.02 replaced with v 1.04 after 238 downloads
v1.04 replaced with v 1.05 after 429 downloads

Attachment: cpt1-05.zip
This has been downloaded 3267 time(s).

No seriously, just a quick note to say i'll be adding CPT to version 1.15 of Marla's world map once it's passed beta testing. Thanks for your continuing hard work to make life easier for idiots like me

This is so easy to use!

I haven't played a game so far, but I have set one up to make sure everyone started in the same place and it worked, except for one problem.

In my maps I have replace the Iroquois with the Incans. Following the Instructions I set the Incans ID at "-1". However when I started the game the Incans were in the Americans starting location and the Americans were nowhere to be seen. I reset the Incans ID to "15" (the Iroquois ID number) ans everyone started in their correct location. I don't know if I misunderstood your instructions, but I wanted to let you know how it worked for me.

What's going on whenever I try to download your attachment, I only get a null file called "attachment" with no file extension. I can't seem to download attachments from any thread on the whole forum. Does anyone know the problem?

That is a known 'problem'. I didn't want to make the CPT to read the rules, which makes the names ignored. The ID should be the spot in the BIC, and should only be -1 if you rename a civ when you set up the game, not if you edit the BIC. (And this is only supported with C3CT (I might add support for it in CPT in a later version, but rightno I make tha changes in the same time as I load the file, and doesn't load the strings for the names.))

It seems as if there was something wrong with the site move. I hadn't downloaded anything since then. Until this site works in the right way I'll ask you to download from the other (Civfanatics) site (but I don't think the admins like that).

Now after a second try, and after reading marks post in the thread about this problem I advice you to just rename the file to .zip. (sorry for not testing everything in the right way)

This is how it works:

No rules are read. (The BICCivs are only represented by the ID)
However the Civs in the SAV (mainly the PlayerCiv) can be renamed at start up, and those names have higher priority then the Ids. If you rename Germany to America it will start in America, and America will appear somewhere else (most likely in Germany, but I've not tested that very mush)

Well, you will need to create a CPF file (it tells the program where the civs shall start)

To do so the easiest way is to have the positions defined in the editor. Loas the map in Civ3MultiTool (the CopyTool part) and click Generate CPF. Then You will have to edit the CPF generated to have the correct ID and name for the civs.

Put an end to popups!

Load the generated file in notepad.
Then you will see all the starting positions have

code:
ID=-1 NAME=UNCHARTED

This is what you have to edit. The ID is 0 for the first civ in the dropdown lists in the editor (Barbarians) and counted up to 16.

Nope, jimmyh and I are working on decompressing the savegames. Before that I can't do any updates.

It might take another week to get everything ready, maybe longer. Compression saves diskspace, but it creates work (for sav-hackers).

Okay, thanks to chiefpaco, for finding an almost working decompression algorithm for the compression the DCL used, and to jimmyh for helping me modifying and testing it to work with Civ3 files, I can now decompress them. Finally thanks to Mike at Firaxis (or whoever made it possible to still load uncompressed saves (of the latest format) in Civ3) for that I don't have to make a compress function yet.

It's now working CPT 1.05!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
