what are the commands of the message window in CTP?
(/attach , /detach , but the others?)
how to change the name of a player during play? how to
activate the cheat mode during play? etc...

Not sure about the message window commands but to enter cheat mode you need to click the "options" button on the menu then click "cheat mode". I believe you can also change the names while in cheat mode. HTH.

yes but my question was when the cheat mode isn't available.

I heard somewhere that if you delete the .csg extension from the PBEM save game and load it using single player/load from the appropriate directory then it is treated as a single player game and no longer a PBEM game - but that might have been Internet games, not PBEM games... I'm not sure.

For obvious reasons, you can't get into cheat mode from a PBEM game.

What do you mean by the commands of the message window? Are you talking about SLIC?

without the csg extension.
i don't know if it is SLIC. it is the
discussion screen (i activate it with " ' ").

I now know what you mean about the message screen, it's nothing to do with what I was thinking of.

I know 2 commands you can use there:

/attach [player nr]
/detach [player nr]

I don't know any others.

There was an old thread posted on CtP-Multiplaying forum by berXpert with a list of the chat window command but with the Apolyton server issue right now it is possible to track it.
It included command for changing the name of a player, for jumping into another player's view, revealing the entire map and some not working ones but there is no command to enable cheat mode. Accually that is not possible if the cheat mode is disabled and it always does when starting multiplayer games.

That doesn't work John. If you try to load a PBEM turn with or without the extension it will be loaded as a PBEM turn and not as a single player game.

However you can load it through a new game as a scenario. Unfortunately you always get the same civ no matter which turn you open.

You're right - now that you mention it I remember accidentally renaming a PBEM game and opening it and nothing changed. Sorry for the false lead.
