Eh... I'm not quite sure yet.

I mean, I'm in that stage of writing, where I ahven't exactly put anything on paper. Nor do I have any clear view, of what od I wanna do.

I remember talking about two ideas with Imran.

I intend to fulfil one of them. (how do you properly spell fulfil anyways?)


1) The bible - with apolyton characters
2) Some historical review - with apolyton characters.

In August we though about doing WWII, but today I think the intersting situation today is much more inviting.

Here's the challenge.

First off- relay story writing is usually crap. True- you can get brilliant ones, but only when you get writers who tune into each other's wavelength and provide feed lines for each other.

A better approach is to go for self-contained pieces on a common theme, if you want group involvement, and I'd like to make a suggestion. This is a Civ site, so why not write "The Apolyton History of the World". Write about a historical event, a Wonder of the World, a technological breakthrough or a disaster.

The potential for comedy in history is prectically limitless. Pick yourself a chosen target and play up the laughs for all you're worth. I'll be happy to provide an example to get people's brains going.

Bugs, I know what you mean about relay story writing, since that is what I've normally done (Civ Wars the Prequal, being a notable exception). You do get wierd breaks in writing style (see the above 'Gospel According to Dracon' link), but they are good fun, and usually pretty funny... not too bad, but they don't end up being good stories yes.

History is an interesting thing to converse about, but how many here do you actually think care about history (Hell, I'd wager most of them just drifted to the OT... histo wha? types). And, not everyone can be as funny with history as yourself. Requires a bit of research too.

Not a bad idea at all, just need people dedicated to that sort of thing. The parody (using Apolytoners) seems to have the greatest comedic value here, for whatever reason (ability to relate, I figure).

I like the common theme, though I'm not sure everyone will go for history. It is well worth the try, and if you want to go for it, I'll join up... Hell, why not? Been a while since I wrote anything story-like (the Excellent Adventures seem ages ago).

With the bible thing, would it be a direct parody, or just something remeniscent of the bible? If direct parody, we should start laying out a dramatis personae. Who is God? Adam & Eve?

I'd suggest just doing Genesis if you do the bible thing, also. More people know it and the story is easier to parody.

It took me ages to make it in readable (skimmable) format

and then a power surge caused it to be redone from scartch..
