10 new resources...mostly food related. Took images from various locations around the web and of course modified them a bit.
-Silver
-Sheep
-Bricks, chocolate, or lumber
-Copper, Lead, or a stone quarry
-Fruits (pumpkins or squash)
-Vegetables1 (bok choy?)
-Vegetables2 (brocolli)
-Vegetable 3 (sprouts or pea pods)
-Berries or tomatoes
-Potatos
Terrain with new resource preview available here:
Download the resources.pcx (20k) file here:
http://www.digitalcollective.com/resources.pcx
Down resources.zip (11k) file here if you have problems with the .pcx one:
http://www.digitalcollective.com/resources.zip
some other ones I was considering include: porcelain, jade, rice, some other mineral or precious metal (platinum or lead, etc.), soda, tobacco, electronics
don't have the .bic made yet sorry.

the silver and sheep actually are included with the game but in an unused file called resource.pcx. they had other metals in there that were the same icon as the silver, but with a different color that can also be used...8 of them in fact. so if you want more metals, could substitute those in pretty easily. plus there are still 4 open slots in this resources.pcx to add new ones.

Lemmy, thanks for the catch, it just goes to show what heppens when you don't read over your post before pushing the submit button.
Akka le Vil, silver is an important component of modern electronics because of its conductivity and chemical properties. It wouldn't work to just substitute copper. It's not like a recipe, these are delicate, sensitive, and necessarily high-quality pieces of equipment, such as the computers on fighter jets, etc. |
Well, I know that you just can't take one element and replace it magically by another.
What I meant is that, for a civilization scale, copper will be much more used in the industry than silver, just because it's much cheaper and common.
OT :
You awakened my curiosity on one thing, though : is the silver really used into high-end computer ? I'm a little suprised, 'cause copper is only used since a year in the civilian large-scale industry and replaced aluminium. So if you could tell me a little more about it or give me some links related to this...

Just out of curiosity, how did you overcome the seemingly hardcoded limit of 12 resources? Everyone seems to be having a problem where more than 12 resources refuse to show up. Did you overwrite some?
Silver, IMHO, should replace gold because it was the currency and valuable metal for the entire world for most of history. In fact, North American silver is practically the #1 reason why the world economy shifted from China/India to Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Oh, and I am tired of people calling for silicon to be a modern-age resource: silicon is THE most common mineral on the planet, it comes from sand! Copper is a great one because it can be important early on, them become important again later for modern-age stuff (after Electronics). For this to really work it would need to be made quite common and the bronze age would have to be extended to make it worthwhile. Just a few thoughts.

Copper, silver, gold, platinum, and other "valuable" metals are all used in electronics for their high conductivity. However, Civ3 onyl represents "strategic" resources, not things that are needed only in small quantities or that are available in very large quantities. Copper is the only conductor that is valuable enough and used in large enough quantities (*most* conductors in electronics, especially consumer-grade electronics, and all non-optical network, telephone, and most electrical wire is copper). So there. =)

hadnt tried to make the mod until just now. those screencaps are from within the editor not the gameplay. but yeah there does seem to be a limit of 22 resources icons for now within the game. the resources are still in the game, just not their icons.
